OctoPre vs. DigiMax

I'm considering one of these and will appreciate any comparison...
Thanks

I have used both units and as far as I am concerned the Presonus is a step above the Octopre. The Digimax is fairly transparent while the Octopre adds the "silver series" warmth (which is awful). I would jump for the digimax. Good bang for the buck buy. Especially when you have to pay for the damb A/D card for the Octopre.

PRS1JAZZ,

I have a friend who is trying to put together budget studio to do basic singer songwriter style recording in...no more than demo stuff really. Anyways, he has asked for some recomendations in gear. Both of these units seem like good Bang for you buck.

How would you compare the preamps of the digimax to say a mackie mixer. He wants to do things in the computer, but he still wants to buy a mackie for preamptutt

thoughts?

As for the comparison between mackie pre's and the digimax.......

I think mackie pres sound sterile, not in a good way either. They are very quiet but cold to the touch. Maybe ok for electric guitars or toms but that is about it in my book. I have heard some good work done on a mackie board.....its just not my cup of tea. I like the Digimax pres for the value. Pristine in quality, not too colored. Not to the quality and "strait wire gain" of Earthworks preamps but a good value for what you have to spend.....$500-$600 on ebay.

Please do yourself a favor and avoid the flatness and harshness of anything from the focusrite silver series. I have a friend who has the presonus VXP and it runs circles around the focusrite.

I know those are different units, but... man.
