ADAM A7 monitors first look Paris AES May 2006 ..

OK so I asked the French ADAM rep to take the folks music off and put some 'rock music' on so I could get an idea of em..

Listening to No Doubt.. I was enjoying the speakers but then put my hands on the sub unit on the floor to see if it was on...

NOPE! The rep turned round the sub unit that I thought was on to show it wasnt actually plugged in..

So a long way of saying that I was impressed with the bass delivery of these little speakers..

Report ends....

No one has yet, as far as I know. The first production units are only being built right now, so the only place anyone has heard them is at the Messe, NAB and AES.

Given their similar price points, I imagine plenty of people will be doing this comparison when the A7 ships in the next few weeks. I'll be very interested to hear what you guys think.

The A7s use a carbon fiber cone where the ANFs use a paper cone, so (I think) the A7s have a tighter bass and midrange.

How are they compared to the ARTist and to the P11A?
They're definitely in an attractive pricerange - that's for sure and for the switch and volume control on the front.

I had a very similar question in mind: given the specs of the A7 that look quite competitive to the P11A, and the new woofer (I agree on the tighter bass expectation), and front control copied from the big S models:

Dave (or anybody else), how is the first impression of the A7 compared to the well-known P11A ?
Or asked differently: after the A7 being on sale in the near future, who should buy the P11A ?
Especially for home studio application where a limited power is suficient...

Maybe we are seeing the 1st model of a new monitor line by Adam ?

P11A has bigger amps and different woofers. The woofers are not only made of different material, the P11As woofers have a bigger motor/magnet, and they can put out more SPL than the A7s.

As far as how they compare - that's really subjective, guys. You'll have to lt me know what you think when you hear them.

BTW - I believe the first few pairs are leaving the factory this week.

Any thoughts or comments on these new sub $1000.00 monitors from Adam?

They're not shipping yet, but try a search on the site. An ADAM Rep gave us a little insight. They're supposed to be fantastic (even better the the bm5a's for the price point).

Opinions on Adam A7 monitors

I was wondering if anyone has used these yet? They are supose to be better than the Dynaudio BM5A's. I am looking to upgrade my monitors and was looking at the BM5A's. I really like the clarity and openess of the Dynaudio although they are a little lacking on the low end without a sub. Just hoping that someone has heard both and could give some feedback. thanks

I would like to hear what the main differences between these are as well but most importantly, which ones produce the most accurate mixes after people have used them. After a while, this will get around.

I think the Dynaudio monitors may be superior to the ADAM's from the veiwpoint of how long you can listen to them wihtout having your ears feel tired out. I know thwe Dynaudios and they are very good at that. They let your ears hear what's going on but without shredding them. I can listen to them all day.

I have heard that the Ribbon tweater in the Adam's monitors produces and extended top end that is at first quite revealing but often hard on the ears after a while compared to the Dynaudio monitors.

This may be the deciding factor for a lot of people who buy based on sound and not name branding. If you buy products based on name branding then the ADAM's will liklely win as they are the most hyped speaker out there right now since the Genelec craze. I hated those and their imitators (Mackie)

I would call the dynaudio "too much bass" and "weak topend".. I can't use them for mixing.. if you try to find a sweetspot on guitars (heavy distorted) ADAM or NS-10 are the way to go.

I think a monitor is
1: music related usefull/useless
2. a matter of taste
3: just an aspect, so I need at least 3 diffrent monitoring systems (like good monitors, pc-speakers, and maybe PA, or NS-10.. whatever)

cheers

I really loved these monitors. It's one of those instances where you have an amazing big sound coming from a small package. Don't let the size mislead you. These things have some bite. I'm going to get a pair for my project studio when I get a chance.

You should try listening to them yourself and see what you think. I'm guessing you'll be very surprised.

The gentleman who runs this forum (Jules) owns a pair of ADAMs, as do quite a few of the folks who hang out here. Ask them if they think the top end is hard on the ears.

I couldn't disagree more. The ADAM's do have a detailed highend but I have not found them hard on the ears at all. Most of my days are 12 hours or more and the ADAM's are cranked quite often during the day. I've owned Genelec, Westlake, Mackie, Yamaha and just about every other major brand of nearfield monitor out there, and despite the hype, the ADAM's are the single greatest speaker I've ever worked with.

I wish they would make a passive version. Seems most companies are all active these days.

A passive vesion of which model?

There have been passive versions of the S series speakers available for years. While we no longer officially offer them (we stopped that about six months ago), ADAM Germany would be happy to make a special order pair for you. Heck, I even actually have a pair of passive S3s in stock...

We also make the passive ANF10, which is a pretty great (and inexpensive) little speaker. Those are still readily available.

Thanks for the reply.

I was referring to something in the same range as the BM5 passives. The S series is a bit out of my range for a personal home studio. The dynaudios get great reviews, but ADAMs get even better reviews from what I've read and I would love to get some A7s in passives. But I understand that they don't exist and won't be made.

I'll look at the ANF-10s. Thanks

If you want passive, try the ANF-10. The Adcom GFA-585 or 545 is a great amp to power them.

I am getting A7 wondered about subs

Hi all
I am just getting a pair of monitors for project studio. I am looking at the A7 and my other partners have Hafler, Dynaudio, and Mackies. So we have a full scope of sound. My questions are simple.
How do these speakers rate against these speakers?
Is it worth it to get the subs...8 or 10
thanks
