There used to be a large thread like this over at ProSoundWeb (I think). Pure GOLD. I'm gonna see if I can find it.

This is the worst I've seen in a long time. And the Glass Handed Kites by Danish Pop-Prog rockers Mew. Horrible cover, great album.

Having heard some of the music from some of those artists, what's truly amazing is that some of the jacket covers are actually better than the music. I mean, less embarrassing...

I actually kinda like that Johnny Guitar Watson cover.

But, as a nearly lifelong exotica fan, I have to say, I'm totally weirded out by that Martin Denny cover. I've seen a lot of MD albums but never, ever that one. It's... just... utterly bizarre. (OK, sure, maybe not in this context, but Denny was a fairly major artist who sold la bunch of records to yuppies of the late 50s and 60s... if you had a pool and some tiki torches -- or maybe just the tiki torches, you'd be playing Martin Denny or his vibraphonist of choice, Arthur Lyman.)

This is more like the typical MD cover (sorry about the size)...

The chorus is a little weak... I think it needs more lasers.

I think Stevie Wonder's Hotter Than July would deserve a place in that list.

trm, Where did you find the autographed Rudy Ray Moore?! That is AWESOME! I have to say, I am a big fan, and a bit envious...

I also rather liked the Johnny Guitar Watson cover.

Oh my word, there's some clangers in that list, Millie Jackson's is shocking.

This is some artwork of the non-cheesy kind which prompted mass derision in the UK a few years back:

So I`m laughing hysterically, I show my wife, she just looks at these, smiles and shakes her head no. It must be a guy thing.

JGW does NOT belong in that list.

That's actually a GREAT cover when you consider what he's lampooning(every other "Yo I'm a star with an expensive car" album cover of his contemporaries).

The rest of the list is pretty funny.

As someone mentioned, there was an exhaustive thread somewhere else on this subject(can't remember which audio related web board), that had many more insanely funny covers.

I really miss LP vinyl sized album covers.

It could be a really effective medium.

Or just an unmitigated disaster(as we're seeing).

SM.
