| A lot of the mics you usualy find on bass cabs and kick drums work very nice for floor toms too and get used there often! Think RE20, MD421, M88, SM7 (all hard to fit in a tight setup), Beta 52, D112, ... A floor tom usualy is very similar to a kick, only the tuning is a little higher (sometimes lower than a kick) and it usualy is alowed to have more sustain than the kick, so no wonder that the Beta 52 works for you. Now go and try the mics I mentioned on other stuff like bass and guitar cabs, horns, leslie, vocals, ... Don't limit the use of a mic only because it is sold as kick/drum mic or because every body sticks one only infront of a sertain instrument! The Audio world is a big one to discover! Make your own steps in findiong out what is nice and works for you. You might find thinks the majority out there doesn't do or use and that could give you a signature sound.

| I've used a Beta52 on floor tom before . It made the floor tom too phat , too much boom and low end . For the rock music I was doing it was over kill . |

| This is what I use. I originally bought the Beta 52 about a year ago unknowingly for kick. Didn't sound so hot. When I used it on floor tom, I loved it. |

| Just got through with a session with an AE2500 using only the dynamic mic on floor tom. Sounded much better than the e604 I had originally put up. Definitely recommend using a "kick drum mic" on floor tom. Peace

| One with big hooves | Try the Beta 52 on a guitar amp sometime. Stick it where you'd normally stick a mic & see what happens... I dig the D112 on floor toms if I've got 421's on the racks, that combo always works for me.
