Is it just me, but when I`m listening to Mahler Symphonies (to me the 5th&7th, occasionally the 4th&2nd) I always come back to the Denon Inbal/RSO Frankfurt Recordings which to me not only seems to be the best interpretation but has an outstanding sound quality - to me the best orchestral sound recorded I´ve ever heard.
It is said to have been recorded with 2 room mics at the Alte Oper Frankfurt in 1986.Anyone can elaborate on the recording techniques and devices being used?
