Digi's got some nerve!!!

For their Control 24 exchange program you can trade an existing control surface or digital console and they take $2500 of the price of the Control 24.

On their accepted digital mixing boards list is the O2R96?

Isn't this thing like brand new and about the same price as the Control 24?

The Control 24 isn't all that to begin with.grudge

Smells like they are about to drop a new controller to me.

Thrill,

I got that impression too. Digi's up to something, and so's Mackie - the D8B is going for $5K now (formerly $12K).

Tascam's SX1 is now selling for $5K (formerly $9K), but that might be because Tascam's about to tank...we'll see on that one.

It's war. The digital revolution has not been televised, but clearly, it's raging, if mostly behind the scenes. I suspect we haven't really seen anything yet. The advent of G5 is going to bring a whole new round of developments.

Hold onto your knickers.

I think your nose instincts are good...a new controller is expected for a while now...rumours claim however in a very pro level. 20-30K range to rival SSL's in a pro environment...

Yeah but isn't the SSL's like $100K?

I've seen used Pro Control selling like hotcakes now, they are everywhere.

Who is going to be able to afford a $20K controller just for PT alone? A post house or something, because for music that price would be absurd.

My local car dealer is running a promotion where you can trade in your BMW Z4 for a used Austin Mini Metro. What do you think?

Digi will be marketing any deluxe ProControl II type product as - 'all you will ever need', you can be sure of that....

Concidering I have been using Mix + & a ProControl for nearly 5 years now thats not bad going i am getting some good mileage out of my system..

I would be interested to trade up to whatever it is in a year or two....

Yeah...but, SSL is more then just a controller plus it has a sound. What's the sound of ProControl?

Some of these post remind me os sitting on the couch and being an "arm-chair quarterback" watching american football. Point out what we thing should have happened, etc.

The Tascam SX1 didn't sell at the higher price point. In fact, they hardly sold any at all, so the new price point is design to cut their losses and move some recorders anyway. Tascam posted the SX1LE just a few days ago with a street price of $2999. Should be out next month.

The Digital8Buss price reduction came about due to slow sales, and frankly the unit got long in the tooth. It's been out for years... while the OS updates have been great and all, hardware is hardware. Plus the shake-up in Mackie didn't help. But they have been discounting these for over a year in some fashion or another (the d8b bonanza, etc.)

The Digidesign control surface upgrade is a great idea from digi... get people out of the aging HUI, etc. But I too REALLY dont get listing the Yamaha O2R/96 as part of this promo. Who would be that stupid to turn their in for a lousy $2k credit should be shot. I bet Digi will take their photograph and place the smucks picture on a wall with the title "ASS of the month" and laugh everytime they walk by their picture! The program is a great idea for somebody using a motormix... insulting to those who paid big money for a digital mixer.

Oh well,

GearGuy

Reading this I'm reminded of my very short tenure working at Banjo Depot. This guy came into the store and then called up a few days later to talk to the store manager. He also had the store manager from Sam Ash on conferance call and got GC and Ash into a bidding war on an 02R (back in '97). Our store manager wouldn't quit until Scam Cash finally sold the 02R for $1000 UNDER the landed cost of the board.

Nutty.

It ain't about the better product surviving. It's about which companys have the money to outlast their competitors.

it's kinda like "sssshhhikk.... ssshhhhickkk" when the faders move, and "clik-lik-lik-clik-clik-clik" on those rotary encoders in the "plugin" section

Oh, and ps... I'd expect 2 new controllers from Digi, probably neither at AES, but sometime in the not-too-distant future. One that's more large-format, and one that's more desktop-footprinted

I personally am not intersted in any.

To me the controllers still lack the natural "spur of the moment feeling" you get on a real console. Also the fact you can't use them with other programs(ie Logic) is a pain.

I still work with some old school producers who want to jump on the board and try out ideas and the PT controllers either intimidate them or feel like plastic toys.
