which multi pattern LDC mic under 1000€ ?

I only have one LDC, and that is the AT4033 which I 'm really happy with,
however I need a multi pattern mic as well that would be a step up from the 4033,
to be used for various applications; ac guitars, room mic, vocals etc..

Budget is €1000 max,
I'm thinking of AT4050 or AKG C414.
What are your recommendations?

Thx

Also do you guys use omni capsules on drum overheads?

I am a little repetitive here on this type of topic...

...but a used Gefell UM70 is a fanatastic mic for under $1000 euros. Much less, most likely. Should be easy to find in your neck of the woods, check German Ebay.

If you desire a pair, it might not be the best mic cuz you will probably never find another that sounds exactly the same (if that's how you like your stereo).

Canadian kilobuck is US$900

You can get a PAIR of AT4050 AND nice stands/pop filters for your C$1000.

AT4050/CM5 frequently closes for around US$300 on E-bay. Within a month, you will win 2 for less than US$400 each.

It's likely that the 2 you get will be "matched" by virtue of automated processing, and tight quality control, rather than selection from a group (of differing hand-made capsules).

I don't know of any better overall LDC-multipattern value, especially when thay arrive with AT shockmounts (needing elastic that you can fix in 10 minutes).

All usual cautions about buying from people you don't know apply.

Edit: Not Canada Dollars, EUROS, which is almost US$1300. Whoo hoo!

Cheers.

That sounds good, I've read many good things about these AT4050,
my only concern is; having already a 4033, won't the 4050 be too similar sounding than the 4033?

AT4033 compared to AT4050?

Here's AT4040 compared to AT4050:

AT4033 commented on:

The GS search function pulls up many snippets of commentary on all AT recording mic's.

I don't have an AT4033, but have high confidence that an AT4050 or AT4050/CM5 are not "too similar" to AT4033. The construction is different: One diaphragm vs. two. Electret vs. Externally polarized. Look at cardioid response charts. The price-points are quite different (at new/retail). Only cosmetics and model numbers are similar. Check/compare data sheets at Audio-technica dot com.

Cheers.
