Thread Starter | ALL SSL Console Owners, Users & Techs: ROLL CALL!
I have been thinking about doing this, assembling a list of all current SSL console owners and users and their console model/channels. Also any SSL techs please chime in too. Feel free to add pics. I think this would be a great resource for all of us in case of any console issues or if someone needs help with some function of their desk or something mechanical or needs a part etc... It will be awesome to have a list of GS members they can contact in a pinch for some help. I will add members names to this 1st post as people post their info. Ok I will start:

James,
You could also use this list as a forum for group buys on switches/modules/powersupplies/lamps/globes.
Im sure if you all got together to pool resources you'd be able to get a good deal on spares etc

Here's my little SSL setup at my home studio. Pulled from an 80 channel SSL 4000G+ at a television studio and saved from the dumpster. My version has 32 Channels with no center section or computer (they were sent to LA and kept by the network as the rest was being tossed) but we custom built one and have plans to keep adding more functionality to it. Right now all the logic works, next we're getting the VCA groups to work and after that I plan on adding MIDI automation to the VCA faders. Its the best I can do with what I have but I'm not complaining. Its an SSL for free with power supplies, and spares. I'll tell you its really nice to be working on a LFC again after 10 or so years of working all in the box.

I have a SSL 9056J (fully refurbished by the legendary Pro Audio Design in Boston Mass....and will officially be up in about a week and a half) 56 channel, ultimation moving faders, instant reset (not total recall, it's different) 56G+ AND 56E 242 Black EQ (with the pushofabutton) 112 automated inputs, and hi-z inz on every channel. I am not a tech, but can fix stuff. I know a few good techs that I can trust. Cheers!

I own a 80 input SSL SL-5000M series desk that I pulled from a major sports broadcast facility. I have been parting it out for almost a year now. I have attached a picture of the desk from the day I picked it up. It has not been set up as a full console since March of 2011. I have many spare parts such as EQ's, Compressors, Faders, Meters, Extender cards, cabling etc. including big bags of new spare parts.
Feel free to contact me if you need any parts. magneticnorthstudio@gmail.com www.magnocd.com
Best.

DT is without a doubt the premier SSL tech on the east coast. He should be the first person people call when they need work done. At least you guys got Bruce Millet mentioned. These two are the best in the biz, and I've worked with both of them extensively.
Also, if anyone needs to get in contact with DT, feel free to drop me an email and I'll forward your details to him (or vice versa). I wouldn't want to post his contact details on a public forum without permission. | Tony we just started this, ask him if he wants to be on the list and get a website or something.

We've worked together numerous times over the last 15 years. He's probably refurbished hundreds of consoles... The "SSL refurbishing" companies hire him to do the work. He's the man, and he's always pretty booked.
James, if you didn't already know... this is the guy you should be working with if you're on the east coast now. Drop me an email and I'll give you his contact details.

Thanks,
Papillon | All of the push buttons are soft (sends busses ect) digitally controlled, for faster recall/less crap in the audio path and NO coupling caps and ultra low noise floor! My board is like new and fully refurbished by Pro Audio Design...Some techs I was going to mention was Mark, but he already posted, and Norman Druce out of Detroit.

My board is like new and fully refurbished by Pro Audio Design... | As far as I know, there are no electrolytic caps in the audio path on any of the 9000's.
That's what "SuperAnalogue" was all about.. it used DC coupling.
BTW, they are also all surface mount... and because it doesn't have all those caps, there is little you can do when it comes to refurbishing (unlike the 4000's where there are tons of electrolytics, etc). Refurbishing those likely means a "cleaning, fault find and correction, and new leather trim". In my opinion, it's essential when purchasing a used console to have a line item of what the actual refurbishment consists of... In writing... and part of the signed agreement by both parties.

Not exactly a whole console, but a few weeks ago, I purchased two SSL 4000 strips fitted with "Black 242 EQ and 241 Mic Pre's with transformer" from Rhoades Audio Designs in Nashville.
I'm using them with the Folcrom. Sounds pretty amazing.
They also have 9000 strips which is on my list to try.

Hi Tony!
Not arguing, but there are still quite a bit of electrolytics. My console has had it's supplies balanced, cleaning and lubing, finding faults and replacing of faders pots bulbs cards in the master section and switches. The only known failure common to the 9000s so far, has been in the dynamics card. The surface mount failed chip is replaced with a riser so that in the future that chip can easily be swapped out. Pro audio design charges 100.00 for the repair total. I have confirmed this problem with Peter Duncan's tech, who worked for SSL till the mid nineties. 9000j/K also have "self test" which help make them some of the most reliable mixers on the planet! Cheers!

We have a 4056G/TR from 1987 with 52 mono / 4 stereo channels. Recapped by Australian tech guru Rob Squire in Jan 2010.
Can be configured for 5.1 (Quad bus + 2 mono busses) and routed to an SSL Xlogic 5.1 Bus Comp (rack) when needed.
Currently situated in Melbourne, Australia. Thanks for posting this James!

I just took a full time gig. There are a lot of factors involved, I will not get into it right now. I will still be doing my design work with Geoff Daking on the side since there is no travel involved. However, it is hard to ship an SSL for service! Phil Nickolay also needs to be mentioned in this forum. He is the guy that I usually refer people over to when I am not available. I have to run. I can explain more later.
Thanks,
