I have never used the CLs, but the apis! I dig in kick and snare, great on overs too. If I only had a pair of each maybe Id try the apis on overs first.

Not sure what style your doing..
For rock i would like the CL on overs.. never used them there. I have used them for room mics before.

But Think they would do fine with overs and help smooth cymbals out.
The API's would be faster for Kick/Snare and have more punch.

Can't hurt..

I use a TG2 inside kick and use a LTD1 on the outside kick.. which is sort of like the CL.
So that darker color does work well on kick and the Snare too..

But never hurts to try different things..

i decided to experiment with me instead of them..so i haven't yet.. i could not bare the thought of not having the 512 on kick.. so i wound up using 512's on kick and side snare..... i use a se3 aimed at the btm rim of the snare ..sn top la610.. hat/ride with trident and overs with the CL's ....toms from the 24 8 buss.. room and bathroom with c24's pres.. very happy with the results

I use a pair of 7602s for toms. I love them. Sounds amazing on Bass DI also.

They are okay on overheads, I prefer my Millennias, Neves, and APIs over them on OH. APIs are darker, but they sound smoother. I generally don't like super bright overheads. If you do, you may go with the CLs (which are great nonetheless!)
