RNC power requirements

This one has been bugging me for a long time. The back panel on the RNC states 9VAC 600mA. The wall wart that I got from FMR is 9VAC 500mA. Any repercussions if the thing is getting less current than it wants?

Also, according to my meter the wall wart is providing 10.2 volts. (This was not the original WW, first one fried & I got a replacement from FMR). Is this okay? Bad? Doesn't matter?

I experience distorted low frequencies when using it in my bass rig, and a slower release time does not fix it. Would a better power supply help this? Is there a source for high-quality, well-calibrated wall-wart transformers?

Also, I'm about to replace the OP275 with a LM4562. I believe this to be a drop-in replacement, but wonder if this will require more/better power. Would appreciate any feedback or ideas. Cheers!

Jim, you should ring FMR. Their phone number is on there website and they are super easy to work with.

The voltage is fine - 9VAC is a nominal voltage and most transformers are a little over. The voltage regulator inside the RNC will handle that.

But lack of current is a big problem. Especially on bass. You might find it sounds better if you can supply it with the current it wants. Always overdo current if you can - the device won't draw any more than it needs, but if you don't have enough the voltage suffers which means your waveform suffers.

But if RNC supplied it, it should be ok. I would expect them to know what works with their stuff.

I called FMR when I had to replace my wall wart power plug. (My pet rats chewed through one of them. Last time they ran around the studio)

I called FMR and they gave me the model number of the Radio Shack generic one they recommend. I bought one and it's at work. I'll bookmark this thread and see if I can find the model/item number.

Yes, it works. I just want it to work better. :-)

Cheers & thanks all for the input. I will seek a transformer with a bit more current to see if it helps.

Worth mentioning that I went ahead and swapped out the opamp and am impressed! It's even more transparent. Tho I should have installed a socket, I think I might like to switch back & forth, this thing is super transparent now & I realize I like the subtle distortion for some applications (drum bus).
