EQ resonance/shift

I know what a EQ resonance/shift is, but I am wondering what it is used for? In what situations would you want this bump before altering the eq up or down?

It makes the eq band stronger and narrower - more peaky. It helps to make more surgical cuts or boosts. It also gives more color - more of a tuned resonance sound - which can be good or bad depending. For smooth, unobtusive stuff try a low Q (low resonance).
