DSP in Monitors

Positive reviews of the Equator D5 monitors puzzles me. If a set of converters can be included in $300 monitors which reputedly sound excellent, is it necessary to spend thousands on system converters? I mean, it seems a little silly to send my mix out through my expensive Benchmark DA, only to have it reconverted to digital in the monitor, processed, then converted back to analog, all by converters the cost of which represents only a small fraction of $300.00.
