The little guys needs all the help they can get. You pay a little more but what you get in terms of service and the building of a relationship is very valuable. It is nice to be able to talk to the owners and designers of major equipment about stuff. Wes Dooley know a lot more than ribbon mics. Mark at BAE know a lot more than preamps and EQ etc etc

Dan Kennedy
Fletcher
Paul Wolf
John Peluso and many more..
Thanx for the kind words... as I'm the only pimp in the list you listed I'm doubly flattered.

If anyone is looking for me - I can be found at SoundPure.com in Durham, NC these days... its a pretty fun place!!

Peace

I need a new one, I'm done with my old one. Who do you recommend?

Sweetwater.com and Musiciansfriend.com both have a very large selection of equipment, and usually have competitive prices. For certain items, grabbing gear from a reputable buyer on ebay.com has enabled me to acquire some great stuff for cheap.

Might be useful to define "best dealer in xxx area" - we're not all american, and since the OP's location is undisclosed, how can anyone offer him advice without guessing?

In the UK, anyone looking for high end studio gear (in fact, just about anything audio) should go to ASAP Europe. Alan is very knowledgable, can get just about anything, and does great prices.

I want to put another vote in for Alto Music. Great prices, real good people to deal with. You'll come away happy.

+1 for Sweetwater. Scott Augustyniak finds what I need and if they don't carry it in stock, he finds it anyway! Plus, I love the extended warranty, free shipping, and lifetime tech support.

Zen Pro Audio - Warren is fantastic to work with.

He has given me some solid gear reccomendations based on my type of recording and current gear list. He has actually talked me OUT of buying gear that I didn't really need. I am grateful for that level of commitment to what the customer needs!!!

yes sure, especially when you could save big money by the end of last year.

I ordered a stereo distressor from Musiciansfriend for 15% off. Great deal. Now they delay the delivery until march the 16th. Can you believe that? I dont know what to think, because there should no backorder status for these units, as I was told by the distributor of empirical labs. but of course they already took my money.

I don't tend to always go to the same people, but here are a few:

Drum sticks & cymbals - Drum Kit Sets | Electronic and Percussion Drum Kits | Cymbals etc - Newcastle Drum Centre
Drum accessories - Guitar Shop | Music Shop UK | Andertons Music Company
Drum heads - Plymouth Music Shop and Online store: Guitar Strings | Guitar Leads | Guitar Straps | Evans Drum Heads | D'Addario | Orange Amps | Planet Waves | Ernie Ball | DR Strings | Promark Sticks (best prices on heads I've seen in the UK)

AudioLot

Joshua Aaron at AudioLot AudioLot - Pro Audio Sales and Recording Studio Consulting - 888-224-3343

This guy has always gone above and beyond for me. He is articulate and knowledgable. The margins that he has made in selling me gear wouldn't come close to paying him for the time and help that he has so generously given me. I have had personal experience with some of the other great gear pimps out there, but Joshua Aaron is number 1 in my book.

I'm in thinking about the same thing ,..so did you keep the toft?

The only person/outfit on my list that hasn't been mentioned above is Chris at chrisguitars.com in Albany, NY - it's a players-level, online only, used gear outfit that I check regularly. I've bought my fave guitar and fave amp there in the last 5 years. They might not have what you want for months, but they really move through inventory, so if you keep checking every few days then that thing you want, whatever it is, will soon enough float through - and cheaper than you thought it would be. It's a one-man operation, mostly, but his guitar tech, Martin (who sets up every piece - from Squiers to McInturffs) is nothing short of a genius, I reckon.

Chris is a nice guy and loves to trade (with reasonable valuation of your stuff).
