Soundcraft 400B recap help ..!

Hey folks ...
I am in the process of rebuilding my 400b and need some advice on capacitor
selection for the input modules. The plan is not to change the opamps at this stage but to replace/upgrade the caps and maybe the transistors in the mic-pre.I have read everything i can find on GS and the net about this but i could do with a shopping list from someone who has experience in this so i get the values right and dont blow my budget or my desk lol

Oh The power supply has been rebuilt with new caps/regs etc already.

Thanks

The longest life and lowest ESR capacitors available right now are the Panasonic FR. And they are small in size.

The person to talk to about that sort of thing is Jim Williams at Audio Upgrades.

Frankly you should talk to Jim not only about recapping the thing... [the stock values are written on the caps - and if you have the manual their values will be included with the schematics]... but also about redoing the entire internal grounding scheme of the thing as that's its weakest link.

Thanks for posting a picture... it took me right back to a bar room I used to hang out in during the 80's... they had one as the front of house desk at that bar... over the course of a few nights [and fueled by some illicit substances] we rewired the ground scheme of the desk... made a VERY noticeable improvement [and the best part was that we stole the copper bar we used to redo the ground from the bar where I was the house engineer... I spent more time in the other bar!!].

Peace

I'm not an expert, but I did recap a Soundcraft Series 600 a little while ago. I did all of the electrolytics on the input modules and master section. I just remember reading that the replacement caps should be a higher value or the same value, but not lower.

Jim Williams is amazing at this stuff! I had him mod my little side car, its a soundcraft delta. That thing is crazy good now. I actually just mixed a metal record on it and some outboard. Pretty killer. I would send Jim a few channels as well and see how that sound when they come back.
