| Gear addict | Balanced insert cable??
Hi I have been soldering for the best part of 12 hours today ![]() and have come to the last cable I need to make for my loom, but I'm stuck and not sure how to make it I need a to make a unbalanced to balanced jack insert cable. Its to go from the insert point on my summit pre to my balanced patchbay Earlier today I made some balanced to unbalanced jacks for my RNLA by wiring the balanced jack as ground to sleeve, hot to tip and cold to ring. Then for the unbalanced jack hot to tip and then the ground and cold to the sleeve. I just cant get my head around how to make a balanced insert cable as my cable only has 2 cores and a copper ground. Any got any ideas?

One way is to twist the white and ground together and solder to the sleeve, with red going to the tip.

My problem is how to make the 2 jacks at the other end of the cable balanced as the red will be the send and black return. So for each of those 2 TRS jacks I will have split the ground into 2 and will have the red for one jack and the black for the other. So am I right in thinking in this case the red and black are both hot and I'm missing a cold to balance them?

Insert circuits are unbalanced. Both send and return lines are conductor and shield lines sharing a TRS connector at the insert end.

If you are splitting the signal, then black would go to the tip of one TS jack, and red to the other, with the shield to both sleeves. Pretty sure that's right. The Mogami I use is red, white, and shield. Sorry to confuse you.
