| Gear interested | Melting LSR4328 Monitor painting.
Hi, i am attaching a picture of my jbl4328 5.1 set monitors, something strange happened in the last three months, the matte painting of the front face is melting, turning into a sort of shiny and tacky glue. No products were applied to this surface, even a dry cloth for cleaning, is progressively and spontaneously turning this thing sticky and shiny. This photo of the speaker is in my recording studio. What puzzles me is that I have a pair of the same model and age in my house that is 15 Km of distance from the studio, believe me, the same is happening with them. The only thing common between the studio units and the ones than i have in my house is the age, were both was manufactured in 2008. They are turning very ugly and disgusting. Someone can help me? |

Man you must be a really hot musician. Kidding asside though, that's a strange one.I don't see what else you can do except take the speakers out, give the boxes a sand and spray them.If you could find a way to mask the tweeter, the driver is easily masked off..then you wouldn't have to take the speakers out.I've sprayed speaker boxes before and they turned out great.

There is a thread on here somewhere relating to this. It has happened to a bunch of folks, but apparently jbl has been fixing/replacing them. If i remember correctly there is contact info for the appropriate jbl rep in that thread. Just do a search and you should be able to find it.

Many are reporting the same problem though yours seems to be worse than many others. JBL is replacing the cabs free of charge (even out of warranty). See thread below for JBL contact info .... they're being great about handling this. They've changed the materials used to surround the front of the cab and are promising that this will not happen again. how can i clean the front of my jbl lsr4328p speakers? |

Whoa I have the same model from (I think) 2008 and mine are starting to do that too. Nowhere *near* as bad as yours.... at least not yet!.... mine are just a little sticky/tacky. Glad to hear JBL is fixing this for free - I will be contacting them. So glad to find this thread!
