SSL G+ versus Steven Slate VCC or Summing Mixer

We have an SSL G+ at work. The owner is debating selling and moving towards a "more" ITB type setup. Most of the work we do is writing and mixing for tv/film. We also do some producing/mixing for artists too. So often with ad music its not practical to mix on the console when you get 15 revisions you have to be able to recall.

With around 70,000 to spend im curious to see what some slutz would do.

we have some nice outboard gear but probably would get a few more comp's and eq's to make up for the lack of the SSL.

Also interested in VCC and summing mixers.

How awesome the SSL can sound for mixing and all. It will still not make a badsong a hitsong.
* Can the people that your clients are targeting HEAR the difference between a ITB mix and a SSL mix?
* Working ITB is a HUGE advantage on all analog on the recall side, redo quick a bounch for stems or adjust something in "click of a mouse".
* We all know that on the moment time is money and that there is less time and less money otm in this industry....

I would build a very stable ITB setup for tracking and mixing (Protools HDX/Nuendo+symphony cards, what ever you prefer working).
With 5.1 monitoring + 32 extra outputs to put down stems (5x5/1 stems or 2x16stereo stems) true a summingbox back to the first setup or a dedicated "second / TAPE setup pc.
Add a nice NOT to big controller and some outboard to ad some "analog flavor" if needed and your done...

But hell who am I to say that this works? Try to talk with clients about it, ask if you guys can do a "ITB demo" project and ask with they like it or not... ofcourse not telling that's all digital. Don't want make a placebo effect

PS: I'm a hug fan of the Phoenix Audio Nicerizer summing box's. Put a Ubk fatso + Clariphonic on the master/tape out and damn you have yourself a pretty darn nice "sounding" color "machine".

Thx Lemauce ill check out some of that gear. Currently when doing add work we dont use any eq or comp's on the SSL simply because we have to do tons of revisions.

One of the main reason's I don't like big analog table's. And the cost of maintenance and cooling them...
