Wow, what a great view.

Here is handy feature for me as well... when I run out of isolation booths I can just pull a car up next to the place...

Nice digs, man.

I'm a North Country boy myself......nothing like a little snow and ice to make for a cool session.

There are probably a few reasons, but this one definitely sticks out:

Our control room has a 14' diameter turntable in the floor. The entire center of the room spins around to bring different workstations [Console, writing station, etc.] into the same sweet spot.

What's unique about my studio? I've got a 24 channel Neve in my basement. Done.

Mine is ordinary for the most part. Aside from that, just a few black lights and lava lamps.

we have this old 3 story wooden stairwell here.
it is a very unique sounding space that has been great for tracking all sorts of different things that need a big room sound or a distant sound.
it sounds huge and is quite versatile for that type of tracking.

BUT, the REALLY cool thing about it is that on the 2nd floor landing there are these decorative wooden polls beneath the railing. there are 4 of them.
each of these polls sounds AMAZING in that stairwell when struck with a soft mallet.
I MEAN AMAZING!!!
they all make a very distinct pitch that can be quite musical and one of them takes off and does things crazy “BOING” thing. its like a weird marimba almost..........

those polls in that space are a unique instrument that has appeared on at least 5 records i have done.
in some cases quite prominently.

That cracks me up dude... you are judging off the "compressed" mic in the iPhone picking up the sound (a mic that can't pick up below 100 hz.)... no offense but really you cannot judge the audio this way and I can ASSURE you it is not squished.

I tracked it, I'm mixing it and I can assure you I WILL NOT BE KILLING IT IN THE MASTERING. I took the hippocratic oath here a long time ago. Buy the album when it comes out and you can hear it for yourself.

Also, please , please , please don't ever lump me in a category... I can assure you I do not fit any molds... if anything my video should show you that at the very least.

It's comments like these that make GS a scary place at times... a little more common sense... a little less attitude goes a long way with audio engineering.

Squashed... ha ha ha...

Also even on my Mac Book spks its obvious that (after level adj) the mastered has a bit more detail, (Which to me is opposite of squashed) and perhaps the vocal pops forward just a bit. Course like you said no low end and hard to tell on a lap top. None the less sounds like you should ignore the nonsense and carry on. Kev

I spent the entire weekend deep cleaning and rearranging my living room
to be more conducive to creativity and more comfortable for guests.

I spent ALL DAY Friday at the Reston Apple Store, One To One personal projects to get rolling on the very basics of set-up for Logic Pro
and running video into iMovie.

Shields Up!

Project Mix, Yamaha MSP7's and loaded MacBook Pro, connected and working seamlessly, so far.

I really want a proper audio desk with under table keyboard tray, but
this will do for now.

Honest, non-smart-ass answer(for once).

We're 2 miles from Midtown Manhattan... we're not located in somebody's house, and yet, and we've still got the lights on, still making records, and still having an outlandish amount of fun doing it every day...

25 years later.

Don't ask me how.

I don't know.

"Too fat, dumb, and happy to quit" has been suggested.

Sounds about right to me.

HOHOHO.

Best regards,

SM.

Just a rough test with really rough playing, but seeing how the signal path
works through Logic.

Hot Cat 100R, Strat Plus, Shure Beta 58, Mic'd direct on the Fane AXA12,
no FX, EQ or processing other than the fade.

Thanks man!

What's unique about my studio is that I can record this stuff at 3:00 AM
in my living room without so much as a peep from my neighbors!

Yup 32 owners all from 3-10 or 20+ acres.

Probably 600 feet to the closest house.

There is A LOT of volume difference.

there was actually some feel and dynamics to the music before then wham! ~loud with now dynamics!

Iphone or not it is obvious. The lawnmower ran right over the top of it!

No offense. Song sounded nicer before thats all I was saying..
