Jack Joseph Puig studio D pictures

So I was reading that JJP moved to studio D. I love the old studio A and was wondering if there are any pictures out there of his new room? I know a lot of people would love to see it. Thanks

Yes I would like to see them. I have one I'll post when I'm on my laptop. But there must be more.

I would love to hear one of his mixes that he did with all of his outboard gear remixed with only Waves plug ins. That would be interesting...

You know how they did the whole diagram number reference thing on the liner of Sgt. Pepper, to show who everybody was?

We need that for a decent picture of Puig's studio. I notice a few familiar faces...but by and large theres a bunch of ?!?. And...I need to know! Anyone game?

It's ALL porn at this point. Anybody with his resume could probably achieve the same result with far less gear and/or plugins. Just saying....

Inward Connections TSL-3

I've always had a good "passing friend" relationship with JJp, ever since he mixed a few songs for my old band on Capitol. He is a really intense, but super cool guy and can talk gear with the best of them....but is usually too pressed for time to talk too long.

One day I was renting a Pultec from Ocean Way for a Mix and Jack stepped out of his room. We exchanged the usual pleasantries and he asked what I was going to use the Pultec on and I mentioned a "hard mid range" voice and he said he was going thru the same problem with his current mix that day and the pultec helps but he needed more.
I mentioned that I had bugged Ian Gardner at Boutique audio long enough (along with the rest of the world) that he and Stever Firlotte re issued the Vac Rac comp in the form of the TSL-3 and that was what I was using with great success with Hard mid range voice in my mix.
His eyes lit up and he said, "can you get one here today"...it was a long shot, but Ian Gardner (great guy) rushed one down fresh off the bench and Jack plugged it in.....he tripped out on the meters for a minute saying "the meters do not look like what I'm hearing, but I like it".

Jack was so pleased with the comp and my help that he let me sit behind him (studio A) in that Henry the 8th looking chair and watch him do what he does....the guy is a master.

Funny thing is I sat there long enough that I started thinking, "Hmmm, I see what he's doing. I could do this, I can get that sound"
AND THEN a voice came over his intercom phone saying the client will be there in 20 minutes. Jack quickly got up, pulled up all of the faders at the right wing of the Focusrite that contained his parallel and FX faders and BOOOOOMMM!!!! the song was Euphoric and I was once again in Aw of this great musician...yes a musician, he plays that desk like a virtuoso violinist.

I have not been to visit in his new room D, but I am glad to see the TSL-3 still in the back rack (word has it, Keith and Mick as well as 311 and many many others have had that on their vocal chain.) glad I could help a friend

Well then his 670 must completely suck.

Or MUCH more likely:

What else is he gonna say?

The plug that bears my name, I got paid to endorse, and pays me royalties on sales... May be a cool little piece of software, but, in fact... It has a fraction of the practical usefulness and sonic mojo of the original unit?

'Cause it certainly has(once again) a fraction of those things compared to this 670.

Jack Joseph Puig studio D pictures-gs670.jpg

Sorry folks... It's not even f*cking close.

And, though some here on GS most understandably may not believe the veracity/impartiality of "source of opinion"(due to my past expressed{dim} views on software vs. hardware when mixing LFAC/hybrid in general terms...

It honestly and certainly hasn't been for lack of trying/hoping with both Waves JJP and UAD softie versions.

Both of which I have owned and used since the week(s) they came out.

Reason being:

The aforementioned/shown 670 does NOT belong to ME, but I have had the pleasure/agony of having rather persistent use of it recently... and I definitively AM NOT in the position to be springing the dosh for a similar one.

Much less 2 or 3 of them.

Which is what I would LIKE to have.

Ahh me.

I wonder how much that wall of flat faced rack gear affects the acoustics of the room. It must affect it, surely!

I can oblige.

Knowing what it takes to get a great mix with ONLY plugins and myself having a similar style as jacks, I can tell you it would sound lack-luster and it would take a very very long time to complete, especially with only waves as they currently don't have any saturation options until NLS comes out. RANT ALERT: One of the things I've learned over the years is that professionals rely heavily on the sound certain gear generates more than they like to admit. And trust me, I hate saying that because it pats sellers who take advantage of the "analog" word market on the back. But, with that being said, if you can't put 50% of the puzzle together on your own no amount of gear can save what you do. I'm pretty sure most would be absolutely shocked if they heard what a mixing "god" would sound like if they were only using waves, and what most consider an amateur, such as myself, would sound
like if they had a hoard of gear at their disposal. The bottom line is you'll never know how good you really are until you can work in a treated room with the best of both digital and analog worlds. Long story short, in my humble opinion as amazing as JJP is his waves only mix would sound 50% of how we've come to know him by, no matter what he did, no matter how good he is.
