Wow - this indeed is the tip of the year for all one-room-trackers. Thanks for sharing! And while we're at it, could someone please remind me this shortcut to turn off the computer screen? I'm on Win7. AFAI remember, one needs a small app to achieve this, correct? Thanks again, Michael |

This really is a great tip! Can I ask a question of those who have tried it? One of the things any self-recorder needs to watch out for is leaving the mics hot and turning on the sound monitors at the same time. Goodbye, tweeters! Well, with proper implementation of this tip, one should be able to monitor through real monitors, not just headphones, right? I mean, with the signal going 100 percent through the delay, and the delay set at something like a second or more, feedback should not occur, right? I don't want to experiment with this to find out the hard way I was wrong. If I am right, though, that would really change (for the better) how I figure out mic placement for everything, because I could hear exactly what it sounds like over my monitors. What you hear is what you get. How refreshing would that be? This still would require some vigilance regarding the prevention of feedback. Don't kill the effects while the mics are hot. Gotta be careful there. Again, great tip! |

Ok, just tried this last night and worked like a charm. I haven't been able for the life of me record any decent sounding acoustic guitar tracks of me as the player before this. Thanks for the tip! Perhaps worthy of a sticky?????? Sent from my DROIDX using Gearslutz.com |

Answered my own question. I was right, you can use real monitors, and they won't feed back with a squeal, but there's something else I had not anticipated: you get the delayed sound going back through the mic again, which means you get a fading repeat. If you could kill the mic between a test "hit" and when it comes out of the monitors, I guess you could stop that from happening, but that might keep you too busy to listen. Maybe use a foot activated mic kill switch? I've actually got one of those sitting around. I guess another solution is to just use decent headphones and not worry about killing the mic. There will be a repeat, but it will be much more faint that way (just headphone bleed). Again, great tip! |
