Thread Starter | Ok.... What am I doing wrong....
...because this is totally beyond me - and I have searched the forums/threads here, to no avail. Let me start by saying I am not a newbie (although there's nothing wrong with newbies), but this problem is getting the better of me; I'm running Protools 9 and a MOTU 828mkIII hybrid and would like to use my outboard compressors as inserts. As an example, in the I/O menu "inserts" option of PT9, I have inserts 3-4 running out of the MOTU and into the physical inputs of the compressor. I have then taken the outputs of the compressor and fed them back into inputs 3-4 of the MOTU 828. In the selected PT9 channel, I have select insert 3-4 under the "I/O" plug option. Now, the audio routes perfectly out to the compressor and back into the 828, because I get a visual on the compressor's meters and the 828's input/output meters. However, I get no meter reading nor sound from the input channel in PT! When I make the channel I/O insert inactive, the sound and meter readings reappear. It makes absolutely no sense. Can someone advise, please. Many thanks in advance. |

Can you link to a snapshot of your IO route matrix? I assume you have checked that?

i checked your routing...i dont see a problem though!! sorry but if it really does not want to work, just do it via a normal bus you route out of motu into comp and return it to an other track!!! might not be the best solutions but it will do its job |

Thread Starter | ....and that's my problem! Why won't it work, and are there any other users out there who use inserts in this way with an 828mk3? Quote:
Anyone else? | |

Ok, I figured it out and want to share this with other 828mk3 hybrid users who may want to use outboard compressors etc. using the INSERT plug in Protools 9 or Logic. The issue lies with the 828mk3 and the configuration of it's physical input/outputs, which are arranged in the following order: Analogue Out 1----2----3---4---5---6---7---8...etc. Analogue In. Mic1-Mic2--1---2---3---4---5---6--7--8 Example: Set your inserts up as usual in the protools insert tab then route outputs 3 & 4 into your stereo compressor, and from the compressor into inputs 1&2 of the 828mk3. Using the I/O menu option from the the plug-in list of your chosen track, select "insert 3-4" and all should be good! If MOTU had configured the front panel mic ins as inputs 9 & 10, I would have been spared the headache!!! |
