Amp sims used in releases

Hey fellers. Wanted to know if any of you out there in digital land had any knowledge of particular amp sims used in any releases? I've been compiling data from various sites, plugging it into sims and saving it under "-bands name- sound" for a nice quick starting point whenever I have something in mind. It'd be very interesting to know if anyone had any first hand knowledge of the exact amp and cab simulation used for any particular song

Meshuggahs upcoming album used strictly the amp rack in Cubase..

There's a lot of progressive metal records coming out recently using the Axe-FX, unless you mean just plugins.

I don't know if you're looking for big commercial releases, but the EP by metal band Nerve End that came out just recently (available on bandcamp) sounds amazing in my opinion. That used Poulin Legion>Mesa impulse with SM57 afaik.

From what I understand, the album by "My Darkest Days" was all done with Amp Farm.

Also, the debut album by Sixx A.M. and the recent Motley Crue album from a couple of years ago were done entirely with the Eleven plugin (this was before the Eleven Rack was introduced).

What ??! Cubase?! Insanity! .. Well. Actually it doesn't seem that outrageous if youve got good stuff to run your DI through and mix with. Im interested in it all.. Yeah I read somewhere motley Crüe used 11. I'm using 11 on a song right now and the sound absolutely what I wanted!

If you're talking about my post, it's been a while since some of this was talked about, but I dug up a few links:

My Darkest Days, Part 1: Guitarist Sal Costa on Living His Dream - National Music Industry | Examiner.com

And here's another one with Hinder, that I forgot about:

When Sixx AM did their first album, it was mentioned a lot in some articles by Avid, and on the forums, but that was a few years ago, and that stuff is hard to find now.

Eleven wins for me. Heres an interview where session guitarist Brent Paschke talks pretty extensively on his usage of Eleven on major releases (NERD, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarckson)

I believe Devin Townsend used Peavey's Revalver amp sim for the DTP album 'Addicted'. For 'Deconstruction' he used the Axe-FX, not a plugin, but still digital amp emulation.

For clean sounds amp sims are a bit lifeless.. For shred sounds, now that's a different world

Draytone,

The album was Saints Of Los Angeles. It was produced by James Michael, who also produced the Sixx AM album (and might be part of the band? I don't remember).

Actually, I think I remember reading that Pete Anderson, the guy who played guitar for and produced Dwight Yoakam back in the day, used Amp Farm sometimes. His tone was clean to only slightly roughed up. He sounded really good.

I have the Peavey Revalver software, and I think the Fender emulation sounds pretty good.

So, I would have to disagree with the generalization you made.

Of course, since clean tones can be obtained at pretty modest volume levels, I don't think sims are as needed (usually) to get that tone. Just stick a mic in front of the amp, play at a comfortable volume, and Bob's your uncle. But, amp sims can get you there, too.
