Wow. Thanks for the heads up. That was cool. Love 'Cortez' Always one of my favorites of his.

Love the Mackie makin' a suprise appearance there at about 23:00! Kinda funny with the aerial flyover of all that vintage-boner gear and then, "Hey! How's it going Mackie?"

No, the other big black desk with the rotary knobs. The one that comes first.

And how cool is it that we need to specify which big black desk with the rotary knobs.

sounds good for a rough mix, but there is some phase issue with snare sound, you can clearly hear it in quiet moments...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Neil probably doesn't give a sh#t about the phase issue with the snare.

So why he choose to use all this old and expensive stuff if he does not care about how it sounds after all ?

I kind of got sick of Neil. Now I love him again just seeing this stuff. If I had Neil's money and connections, that's exactly the kind of stuff I'd acquire. Imagine what it must have cost to get all this ancient gear and then get it working and to keep it working. I'll bet he has a red telephone in the corner that's a direct line to Jim Williams. I remember reading somewhere how the engineers in the old days would get carpal tunnel from twisting those big bakelite knobs all day and could hardly move their fingers after a long day at one of those boards. Wish Neil would start a lottery with the winner getting to spend a week in that studio.

That recording sounds like a band jamming instead of a bunch of pro tools edits. Thank god for Neil Young.

Typical NY self-indulgence ... But brilliant! The music too.

There's something about a warm glowing, incandescent-lit vu meter imprecisely (analog-ly) twitching along with the music or voice that will always warm my cockles. I have Dickensonian memories of my days in FM radio 30 years ago.

Not to light a flame, but that digital video and digitized audio delivered over a streaming Internet connection is amazing ... and ironic.

Two observations: Great music can be made on just about anything. And perhaps the problem with digital (in an analog vs digital debate) is trying & expecting too much ... Especially when the technology drives the music.

NY's message is the music should always lead the process, not the other way around.
