Thread Starter | PreSonus FireStudio worth it?
I feel my mbox 3 mini is a bottle neck right now. Latency isn't that good and I get clicks and pops once and a while. I feel this is usb 2.0 variable speed issue, and firewire 800 will fix the issue. Of course this is mainly important for recording multiple instruments and other factors, but I know firewire will solve some issues my mbox is giving me. Definitely isn't my cpu or ram. I don't necessarily need to record atm, but it's good to have, I'm more interested in the sound card. PreSonus FireStudio Project - Windsor Region Musical Instruments For Sale - Kijiji Windsor Region Canada. RME fireface 800 is too expensive atm. |

While I have respect for the Firestudio 2626 (now discontinued), having used it for years the Firestudio Project isn't the same box (though it might be just as good who knows?). It has been out for a while and was never geared towards hard core, I'll use this thing for 10 years, type of recording. So I would say that it's probably best to look towards a more modern replacement for your mbox because the FS Project might not be up with the times in terms of features, sound quality and value compared with today's many options. But that is just my opinion.

The short answer for your original question re Fire Studio 2626 is "NO." I've had one for the last half decade and have had far too many problems with it (Cubase, capable PC, etc) Some days it works, some days not... Not very confidence inspiring... And I've contacted Presonus... But it's as if they know there's a problem, and they're hoping I'll forget about it and just go away... But this is my own limited experience and opinion... YMMV And, BTW, I haven't been abale to afford to replace it yet... Just for the record... And when it works, it sounds great! |

had a firestudio project, caused me many problems, sent it in to presonus they fixed the power supply, it came back worked awhile had the same problem occur again i updated the drivers a thousand times, it went away for awhile and came back again. they talked with me a bit, told me to do everything i had already done, then the responses stopped, so i dumped it and moved to the echo. the echo has the switch issue, but for the most part, has much less issues.

Mine works great, and I never had any problems with it. My two qualms with it, though: the outputs are very noisy (but the noise doesn't get recorded so it's not a huge deal I guess) so it's difficult to monitor from it, and the lights on the preamps only light up when it clips. That's fine for home studio stuff when you have a sound check, but I use mine for location recording where you don't get a sound check; you set the pre's by experience and intuition and it would be very easy to make a mistake.

I've never had problem from my Firestudio Project, and it sounds better than the Digi 003 I used to own. The Firestudio Project was it's replacement when PT9 dropped. It's small and has enough inputs to use for a portable recording setup too.

I've had mine for a few years. It's worked quite well for me. No issues.

Don't go with PreSonus. I have FS Project and it quit syncing like 8 months ago. $80 to fix the FireWire issue but like another poster said, it'll go right back out. Go with something higher end without limitations. Look at the 003r, Saffire Pro 40, MOTU stuff, or Echo. I got an AudioFire 12 I'm selling. Almost a week old

I had one for 2 years straight and two at one point for a few months, never once had an issue with either of the two. But I was baby stepping my way into the recording world, nothing extensive. live recordings of my band and a few multi-tracked efforts all run into Harrison Mixbus.
