firewire and usb cable length.

i am thinking about moving my computer out of my control room into a closet, but the closest closet is about 15ft. away...are there any adverse effects to running my firewire to my 002 and my usb to my control surface with this length of cable? have any of you run into problems doing this? thanks in advance

I haven't run into any problems, but you will probable need an extender box (for things like your monitor). I would recommend the ones made by gefen, http://www.gefen.com/.

There should not be major problems with FW and USB cables up to 18-19 ft. But indeed as Zwinter wrote it's better to have some extender.
If the noise of the comp is the issue I also recommend checking out water cooling. Works great for me. Really silent PC and you don't have to move anything put of CR.

Last night I tried those cable things in my studio...
I took Gefen FW cables (10 meters long ) and they work very nice with my Fireface, price is around 80-90 euros...
Concerning USB, I found Digitus USB repeater on 5 meter cable...I extended it with normal USB cable, also 5 meters long and those 10 m - in total- are doing fine.
But, strange thing happened : when I put the same combination on G5 (on my PC it works very smooth), midi interface couldn't recieve any power. So, I just soldered together two USB cables together (no repeater on them) and the problem disapeared.

well, i cant decide what i want to do. it is either i get some cables and move them to a closet...or i get a new fanless power supply for my computer. My other fans are fine...quiet as a mouse, but the PSU is horrible. either way, i am spending about $150 i figure.

I would never recommend anything from Gefen other than a simple cable. The only extender boxes that I found to be without a problem was the old BNC video extenders. I've used their USB extenders - drops out daily (I did have these installed in 10 rooms, so law of averages will be higher for me than for someone's single home studio) Video extenders I've had the Fiber ports go bad (one repair was at Gefen for 9 months with no progress). Used their DVI cables (made by Orphit in Korea) to extend the ADC of the G4s only to have the ADC to DVI adaptors cause some screen display problems.
My recommendations would be for only Gefen's cables. Also look at Dr. Bott cables or any of the other cable manufacturers. Right now I am using Icron's USB extender boxes, they are better. I still have had keyboard dropouts infrequently so I'm still looking for some flawless unit to come along.
