Where can I find a Gefell UM70?

I hear clips of them in shootouts, and they sound phenomenal on everything I've heard. Every once in a while there will be one on ebay for a decent price, but other than that I can't seem to find them anywhere.

People hold on to them. Not a lot of turnover. AFAIK, the UM70 (with transformer) is no longer produced. MG used to do limited production runs but have ceased doing that. If you can't find a used UM70 consider a new UMT 70s (no transformer). Next best thing, less mojo though.

eBay and then send them to Gefell, they refurbish them to as new condition for a reasonable price.

There are a couple in the classifieds right now. I was actually going to post my pair for sale, but this thread is making me reconsider, haha.

UM70

I bought a couple of these as well as a bunch of MV692s with various capsules all on ebay Germany. Unforunately it´s a bit late to find really good deals. When I was buying the stuff (about 6 or 7 years ago) it was going for peanuts. The same with Telefunken non-tube mic pres. Here´s the link:

Microtech Gefell | eBay

I usually use a translater to send questions etc.
Good luck.

You can still buy the um70 capsule from Gefell (I bought 1 this year). Also they still make runs of the um 70 body (692). Put the 2 together and you have a um70.

The um70 may still be available via Mercenary Audio. They had a short production done for them. They can also call Gefell for you and possibly arrange a um70 make for you.

Now the lowest is $1400

The going rate has been 1200+ for a few years now. $700 was a steal. Should have snapped those up. Even at 1400, it's a great mic at a great price.

you guys both have to go and sit in the corner and count to 70. 70 Times. Then write a nice handwritten note to Gefel thanking them for making such a great mic. And NEVER sell one. Next time we won't go so easy on you.....

Gefell UM 70 - you can still get a new one.

I have actually just found out that you can still buy the Gefell UM 70 brand new.

The UK Gefell agent said:- "These are still being made for the US market! It's something that customers in America have been requesting. The MV692 (the preamp) is requested in the old black matte finish. I have previously checked with Gefell because there is some idea going the rounds that this was a special order, exclusively for the US distributor, but in fact we can also sell it in the UK.

Price would be the same as UMT70S. Delivery is probably about 2-3 weeks, so - it can be done!"

Good news.

I just picked up a vintage Gefell M71 from Madooma Vintage microphones---completely overhauled and in great shape---around $1200. There were still a couple of left (M71s and UM70s) when I last checked

Sounds awesome!

A brand new UM 70 is £1,221.00 +VAT in the UK.

Not sure what the US price is - but it seems you can still get new ones.

The smartest and cheapest way is to get a SDC like M70 or M94,etc. which uses the same mic body, which you can get around 300 - 400EUR on ebay or just the MV691 or 692 body (which can be anywhere from 150 to 300 EUR). Then you can choose to buy the new UM70 head or wait for a good deal on ebay (around 400 EUR), I check ebay.de daily out of habit and they turn up regularly. So all together (if you are patient and lucky) some 700 - 800 EUR for UM70. Posting to US can be as low as some 15 USD via regular post.

That saying, I am selling my M70 with MV691 with XLR, but I already have a buyer I guess, if the situation changes I can let you know.

That way I think you could get the UM70 for around 1000 USD if I calculated correctly. But if it is not in a good condition you can add some 200-300EUR to that... Patience is the key to good deals.

Talk to KMR in London. Stefan is very helpful. They will contact Roger at Sound-Link (the UK Gefell agent who told me, above, that it was available).

If you have a problem send me a PM and I'll give Roger a shout for you.

At ebay.de there are still deals to be had. Bought my matched pair um70/m692 including shipping for 1000 euro a few months ago, they hardly look used. Absolutely great and very versatile microphones! Especially if you also have some m582 bodies and m70 and m94 capsules.
