Whoever pays for a trophy gets one. Otherwise they give you a certificate to frame and put up on your wall and that's it. (Probably would they charge you for that as well. Nothing is for free in the land of the free...) And you don't have to capitalize the first letter of every word in your phrase. Just the first one and the special nouns would suffice. Otherwise it makes it harder to read. Hence the lack of responses to your question. B. |

I have several friends at the Grammies and I know a couple people who have won grammies. I don't remember any of them telling me they had to pay for a trophy. You have to pay for your RIAA Gold/Platinum/Diamond plaque. But you don't have to pay for the trophy. I just called one of my friend that used to work over at the academy and asked. Here's how it goes. Most/all people don't take the trophy home that night. they mail it to you later. If you are named on the award, you get a certificate immediately after winning and the trophy shows up a couple months later. If you are not named on the award but worked on the album (assistant engineer, studio musician, etc), you can request a certificate for yourself (depending on the award and your involvement). There is a verification/approval process. If approved you get the certificate but you are not entitled to a trophy. If you are named on the award and you want a couple of trophies (one for mom, one for home, one for studio, one for the label's office, etc) you pay for the addition trophies. You only get one for free. Also if you lose your trophy, you have to pay for additional ones. Anyway, this is how it was just explained to me over the phone. As with anything else, their policies change. It could be different now, or it could have been different in the past. Anyway, I hope that answers your question. And do expand on my answer for your question... it also depends on the award. For example, for the Best New Artist award, none of the songwriters on the album are named on the award, so they wouldn't get one. For Best engineered album non-classical, none of the songwriters are named on the award, nor is the artist. So neither would get a trophy or get up to accept the award in those instances.
