To or to not shockproof

I'm ordering a rack case for some pres and interface.

Will stay in the studio most of the time, but will be loaded in a van and moved for a 6 hour trip every four months or so.

Also an option for a thicker (3/8) shell for just +$20. Will probably add that. Still waiting to hear what the shockproofing costs.

Just not sure how fragile the insides of this gear really are.

The gear itself isn't all that terribly fragile... but a shock mounted case is an excellent idea. As it seems your gear will be living in the lunchbox in your studio as well as doing some traveling - with a shock mounted case you can [usually - be sure to double check] pull the cases insert out of the case which will house your frame... this configuration will take up less space in your studio than a "non-shock mounted" case... and give you extra protection when you do travel.

Win - win in my world... but as always, YMMV.

PS - yes, absolutely go with the heaviest case material you can!! It will add YEARS to the life of the actual road case.

Peace

Personally I go for rigidised aluminium cases - much lighter than wooden ones and very tough.
