How can I get this sound from my DI guitar

As much as I would like to mic an amp, I am forced to use amp sims. I was hoping to get some help on getting a sound that doesn't sound like it is suppose to be in a heavy metal band. I am trying to get something I can use for a pop punk record. I am using Logic so I have the Amp Designer to work with. And I have Guitar Rig 3. Please help point me in the right direction. Here is an example of a sound I am trying to get.

Fireworks "Geography, Vonnegut And Me" - YouTube

Thank you

Yeah, I'm usually in the same situation as you amp/simulation-wise. I often use an overdrive pedal simulation before the amp sim, the Logic Pedal Board works fine. This way I don't have to saturate any single stage as that leads to serious compression and a too heavy sound (IMHO). Also try EQing the low-mid range as this is where the muscle and mud reside with distorted guitars. Taking a bit away might just do it for you.

When I go for this type of sound, I also tend to use passive pickups (for example I have a SD Invader and SD distortion on a couple of guitars) instead of actives, as that gives a more rowdy midrange to the sound. Occasionally I even multitrack a single coil in there to get a bit of sheen. Also then you can turn the distortion up as the a bridge single coil will still accentuate the pick attack.

On Amp Designer try Sunshine Stack, Stadium Stack and Modern American Stack (with low dst settings and little bass).

Hope this helps!
