Take a long hard look at the GS-R24 from Allan and Heath. Not as 'prestige' as the baby SSL, but does pretty much the same thing at a tiny fraction of the cost!

. It's a fancy summing mixer with DAW control. YAWN! I've been reading more into the "super analogue" SSL stuff tonight. Mostly off the SSL site. I'm glad some people here suggested the AWS and Matrix have a similar topology. After some research, and recalling my first hand experience with the Matrix, I'm starting to doubt my plans for an AWS. I've used an AWS once before, but was doing a jazz record, and never really pushed the thing. I thought it was great, but I can see how it would be boring on other projects.

So... Ironically those Matrix suggestions sparked discussion which may save me a bunch of trouble.
