cubase doesn't like my ltd-1s, problems with external fx insert

dear slutz,
today i tried for the first time to use my ltd1 (stereo couple) as an external effect in cubase sx3.1 to eq already recorded tracks.
however, there seems to be a mismatch somehow, because on the one hand i cannot get a decent level into the ltds, and cannot get a decent level out. besides that there is a very annoying high frequency ringing/phasíng/feedbacking, that renders the sound big time POS.
i doubled checked cabeling, settings (line input, ltds set to line) at the ltds and cubase/ interface and all. other pieces of equipment that i checked as reference, or which are inserted in sx3 as external fx work fine in the same / similar configuration. but the chandlers seem to get no love from cubase.
i use 2rme multifaces/ pci. on all available i/o configurations it is the same.
the ltds work fine in any other application (preamp/ insert in console)

thanks for your help !

i am sending balanced line levels out of the daw into the line inputs of the ltds. the line outputs are hooked to the line level balanced ins of the convertr.actually it is the same like with all the other gear that i have insered, but those to work fine.
thanks for trying to help - it is highly appriciated. please keep your comments/suggestions coming !

If that's the case, you'll need something like the Radial "X-Amp" plugged in after your Cubase output to convert your signal to line level before it hits the LTD. Otherwise, you'll continue to get that weak, unusable, hissy level.

I'm sure there are a number of hardware pieces that can do this, but the X-Amp is relatively affordable and the only one I've used. If you want to send two tracks out at a time, you'll need 2 X-Amp boxes.
What? no. The analog out of the multiface is line level and there is mic and line input on the chandler, either one of which can be capable of accepting the direct signal (I really don't know the sens. on the chandler, but some mic ins will take it if the gain is down) but the line should especially.

The re-amp thing is if you're plugging into a high impedance input like on a guitar amp or instrument type effects pedal.

Sorry though, weapon x, I have no idea why it would do that selectively with only the chandler and work with everything else

The strange ringing flangin noise youa re hearing is probably to do with how you have Totalmix setup.Make sure that the inputs and outputs you are using for your external fx are not set up to monitor through your master outputs.

I figured it was something like that, that happens. Not trying to be a dick, just want to make sure no one leaves this board mis-informed.

I'm thinking redroom might be on to something there, but that still doesn't explain why it would work with other units

I've mixed up my routing like that before though. It doesn't sound pretty.

That's strange.. My LTD-1 works fine with SX3. I'm using it with RME ADI8pros.. and Digiface. but should work the same as yours.

Cool. I've had weird things happen on my Mac Pro Tools system and my PC with SX...Some times on both it's fixed by a restart.
