Speaker replacement or refurbishing

In a constant battle against Murphy's Law, I just discovered that the foam around the 8" drivers for my Infinity SM82's are rotting out.

Infinity no longer carries replacement drivers.

This is not a good time for me to replace my monitors with new near fields, so I'm wondering where might be the best place to have the speakers repaired or where I might find a good pair of new matched 8" drivers to replace them at a reasonable cost.

Washington D.C. area would be great.

Check out Madisound.com, or Partsexpress.com. If Infinity uses standard speakers that aren't made for them spicifically, one of these two place may have OEM replacements for them. A while back I had to get replacements for my NHT's and found out the carried the Vifa line but the Vifas for NHT were custom made so they didn't have them.
Good luck, I know how attached you can become to a set of good speakers.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Hopefully, I'll find something good that works.

I thought about getting them re-coned, but it's probably going to be more affordable
to just replace the drivers.

from your description, it sounds like they need to be re-foamed, not re-coned, and there's a world of difference between the two processes. the good news is, re-foaming is cheap and easy. if you're handy you can do it yourself for about $30/pair (all kinds of online shops sell the kits), or you can have a pro do it for closer to $50.
