| Speaker replacement or refurbishing In a constant battle against Murphy's Law, I just discovered that the foam around the 8" drivers for my Infinity SM82's are rotting out. Infinity no longer carries replacement drivers. This is not a good time for me to replace my monitors with new near fields, so I'm wondering where might be the best place to have the speakers repaired or where I might find a good pair of new matched 8" drivers to replace them at a reasonable cost. Washington D.C. area would be great. |

| Check out Madisound.com, or Partsexpress.com. If Infinity uses standard speakers that aren't made for them spicifically, one of these two place may have OEM replacements for them. A while back I had to get replacements for my NHT's and found out the carried the Vifa line but the Vifas for NHT were custom made so they didn't have them. Good luck, I know how attached you can become to a set of good speakers.

| Thanks for the recommendation. Hopefully, I'll find something good that works. I thought about getting them re-coned, but it's probably going to be more affordable to just replace the drivers. |

from your description, it sounds like they need to be re-foamed, not re-coned, and there's a world of difference between the two processes. the good news is, re-foaming is cheap and easy. if you're handy you can do it yourself for about $30/pair (all kinds of online shops sell the kits), or you can have a pro do it for closer to $50. gregoire del ubik | |
