| Gear nut | Best soundcard for Toft ATB 16?
Hi ![]() I've been thinking about getting a Toft ATB 16, and I currently own an RME FF800 soundcard. What would be my best option on connecting this? Another RME or something completely new? I'm not sure how to do this, never connected a mixer to my DAW before :S |

The TOFT is the biggest mistake you could ever make! Don't buy one unless you want to spend the rest of your days having it repaired. Absolute crap! They sound good for a little while and then POW! You're off to the tech again.

16 recording channels into ATB (instruments , mics , synths etc) 8 Bus outputs from the ATB into the FF 8 analog outputs from the FF into 8 Mix B channels of the ATB this lets you change from your main input channels to FF return channels at the press of a button , no repatching necessary . You can record 8 of the 16 main channels at a time to any of the 8 buses just by using the bus assign buttons.

In my facility we use a FF800 and an Aurora 16 for 24 ins/outs with our ATB24. We've found the RME/Lynx pairing to be a good-sounding and reliable combo and I would strongly suggest that you look into an Aurora 8 to pair with your FF800.

I bought one, they serviced it and it, died again, then they swapped it for another, then serviced that one and the sales guy told me to forget it because they were having nothing but trouble with them and would not support them any more. He gave me an Onyx 32.4 on loan to get me up and running and bugger me "No Issues" and it sounded as good as the Tofts! Still a little color but much cleaner, no noise. Sorry but for $8k + I would expect a whole lot more from Toft than this kind of crap. Paid $1600 for the Mackie with post eq mod and never looked back. Just bought a second hand 32.8 bus for $600 and It's fine after years of use. No Neve but I use outboard pre's anyhow. Having it checked over now and using the Onyx for live work. Malcolm Toft should be ashamed......
