Thread Starter | Help me decide what converters to get!
So I'm in the process of setting up a little home rig right now. It will be mostly for my own enjoyment, so things can be a little off the wall as long as it works for me. I'm looking for suggestions on what converters to buy for getting 8-10 channels of audio in and out of the daw. Presently running Cubase SX on a 3.0 ghz pc with a gig of ram and 2 uad-1 cards. I've got an Auditronics "Grandson 110a" for a console. It's a 24 channel frame but I've only got enough modules for 8 channels + 2 mono fx returns. Right now it suites me just fine as I am mainly using it for the 8 channels of retro mic pres and inducter based eq. I will probaly fool around with it for summing, though I only have 10 channels max to play with, should be fun. The music I will be doing is kind of a mixture of funky blues rock with a hint of reggae and dub. Funky stuff that's nice and trippy too. Think the Meters meet Pink Floyd, King Tubby and Bob Marley. My budget will be around $2000 and I'd like 8 -10 channels of ad/da for the daw. I'm having a real problem deciding on what to get in that price range. Going for the Lynx Aurora 8 + AES16 or Rossetta800 + fire wire card are getting up to $3000, a little over budget. But it dosn't seem like there is anything worth investing in under that. I'd like to stay away from proprietary systems like pro tools and motu as I'd like to take my converters with me to track in other studios. I'm tossed up on whether to spend the money on lesser converters and clock them to say a big ben or dive in to the good stuff, which I'll have too save up a while longer for. I've also thought about getting the delta 1010 and maybe a rossetta200 so I'd have at least 2 good channels of ad/da and a good clock. That would get me my 10 channels of i/o pretty close to budget. Any body got good things to say about the delta1010 or the rossetta200? Well enough ramblin for now... any suggestions will be appreciated greatly! PS: I have a Chandler TG-2 in mint condition that I'm thinking of selling to raise some extra bucks for the converters. If anybody's interested in it or has converter related trades drop me a pm. Thanks. |

Another vote for Apogee. I've had a Trak2 for years, and I'm still digging it. thumbsup thumbsup |
