Thread Starter | Transferring my old 2" masters to a digital format in NYC?
I have virtually no access to Studer 24-track machines these days and lots of access to computer and hardware-based digital recorders and playback. I have a number of 2" masters from commercially-released CD projects dating from 1986 to 1995 that I would like to transfer to digital. (The rights have reverted to me.) I'm aware that analog tape remains (by default) the best and most dependable format for long term archiving, but I would like to do some sampling and remixes and various other projects, and eventually stop paying to store the large stack of 2" tapes. Does anyone know of a studio in New York City that has both a 24 track machine and good converters, and which might be able to take on such a project to be done over time during studio "down time" or off-hours at a reduced hourly rate? Once levels are set and calibrated, this is essentially a tape op transfer to ProTools or a similar format. (Shipping the masters outside of NYC for transfer would be too expensive -- 2" tape is not a fun thing to ship -- but if someone in the "hinterlands" wanted to come by with a van for pickup, that might be a possibility as well.) |
