Thread Starter | Tape to PT Transfer?
I have an unmixed project that was recorded on a 1/2"-16 track machine that I would like to mix in PTLE. Any suggestions?

are you sure it's a 1/4" 16 track?
I'd say take it to a studio with an HD rig, do the transfer, and open the session file on your LE rig.

Even in the days when formats ran wild, I never saw a 1/4" 16 track, or even an advertisment for one. I wouldn't be totally surprised to learn that some company somewhere actually made such a deck, but good luck finding one now.
still, l with 17,000 Slutz, you've got your best shot.

Thanks for pointing out my typo!
1/2" should be easier.

Maybe he edited his post.... but it looks to me like it says 1/2" in the original post
What's the budget/situation/end goal of project and what gear do you have? It doesn't sound like you have the machine to go with your 1/2" tape, so i'm assuming you'll need to take it somewhere anyway?

So I need a facility that has a 1/2"machine that can convert the tracks. Also, the tape might need "baked" so to speak. I'm not sure of the optimal levels for this task either.
I would like to find someone experienced and possibly local.

I basically want to edit, mix and take it from there. As far as a budget goes, it's all out of pocket. I'm running PTLE 6.4 on a mac.

I'm not local, but if it was recorded on a Tascam, I may be able to help.

Jack | I'm not sure if it was a Tascam. I'll check the reel boxes for notes. I know I have track sheets in there, so maybe it will say.

It has to be either a Tascam MSR 16 or a Fostex E16.
You can play the same tape on either machine.

You can play the same tape on either machine. | Or the newer Fostex G16S.
In which case yer screwed without the proper Noise reduction(Dolby S). As far as I can remember... it's been 15 years.
Best of luck with it,
SM.

I don't know Slip it would just sound brighter.
That means less EQ on the top end.
Now if it was with the Tascam and they used DBX than without it you will be even happier. |

Well I think it was a Fostex.
The box says 15ips, dbx in, tails out.

The Tascams had DBX.
The Fostex machines had Dolby.

These are the cat's fanny for tape baking.
You have to mod it ( cut the bottom from the food basket) to accept bigger reels.
If you to a lot of tape archiving, this is the bomb.
