Question about Lucid 88192 converters compared to Apogee Rosetta 800 help!

Ok I know that this topic is one that is being beaten to death as of lately, but I am in the market for a new converter. The problem is (and it is always the problem) I have a very limited range of funds I am going to be floating somewhere around the $1400 which is enough to pick up the Lucid and enough for the Rosetta if I take my time finding one. The problem or question I have is this, I have read in couple of other threads that the Lucid 88192 is a great unit and that the conversion is on par with Apogee and Lynx units, but I have also read from just a few post that the Lucid has a bad clock and needs a external clock to improve the quality…. Is there any truth to this? Any advice or suggestions is welcomed!!!

When set in upsampling mode (it runs at 192khz and downsamples to your target freq) it is very nice. You can get picky about details or you can go and make some music/recording instead ;-).

Thanks for the reply. I have read about the upsampling. So do you feel like this unit is good without some form of an external clock?

I use it with lavry blue (clock). Lavry is nice, but if I had Lucid only... nothing would really changed with my results. Splitting hair.

What are we talking about? Tracking/mixing pop/rock/hiphop? mastering?

I had the Lucid 8824 and I swear to this day that it sounded better than my Lynx (which i purchased with my HD2). I'd really like to hear the new version...

Thanks for the reply! Did you clock the 8824 with a external clock? I have read alot of great reviews about Lucid products, it seems like they are often over looked!
