Thread Starter | low shelf eq habits
lately ive been doing a LOT of low shelfing. i have a tendency to like really warm tones in most instruments (ie bassy!), so i often choose sounds that compete for the same frequencies and pay for it later. just wondering how much low shelfing you guys tend to do in a given track? |

I use to never low shelf, but I find myself using it more and more. I will say that in most occasions I will couple a boost with a low shelf with a HPF below what I need so that sub-sonic and muddy tones that I don't want doesn't get boosted either. Honestly, I don't find myself cutting with a low shelf too often. I like things to have nice full low end on most things. If I have massive problems, filters do more for me then cutting with a shelf. Otherwise, I try to find the offending (or boomy) frequency range, narrow it down as much as possible and use parametric/ bell eqs to cut just that area leaving the rest in tact. |
