| Lives for gear | Steven Wilson anyone worked on his material here?
Just discovered the artist Steve Wilson and frankly blew me tits off, not to put too fine a point on it. Just wondering if anyone on here has worked with the guy any info on gear , where his stuff is recorded and who mixes it? If you've not heard of the guy and have a penchant for dark/proggie rock, this should float your boat... Love the snare sound on this track

Yes, there are several Steve Wilson fans lurking in these parts. You can do a search, or get some more info by going here ![]() Long story short, Mr. Wilson does most of his own mixing and production work, for himself and many others. Be sure to check out his band, Porcupine Tree. If you like Index, you'll love them. Cheers, Andrew |

Must say I much prefer his own stuff to that of his band Porcupine Tree. Far darker and more intense.

Yeah he does the majority of the production himself. Drums are often recorded at Gavin Harrison's home studio. That said, much of Deadwing was recorded at Livingston Studios in North London. All the strings for his latest solo album were done at Angel in Islington. |

| Gear nut | Andy VanDette Discusses Mastering Porcupine Tree’s ‘In Absentia’ and ‘Deadwing’ Albums I believe Tim Palmer also mixed one of the PT albums. Also, check out SW's project side bands, Blackfield. Not as dark as his solo stuff, not as proggy as PT... somewhat more melodic and poppy than Porcupine Tree, along the lines of 'Lazarus' and 'Trains'. |

HUGE fan of Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree and can't reccomend it highly enough! Steven is a huge inspiration to me, being that he is an incredible musician, producer and engineer! There's some articles floating around the net that talk to him about his home studio, and I have a couple pictures somewhere on my laptop that show literally a bedroom, with some genelecs, mac pro running logic, and a small amount of outboard gear. The guy is a genius! | |

He's actually a real big IK fan. He used SampleTron & SampleMoog as well as our iKlip while on Tour.

Awesome muso and great guy! I haven't worked with him as such but I've toured Australia with Porcupine Tree . . . the guys were all really nice and extremely hospitable and gracious! Their stage manager on the other hand was . . uh . . quite 'militant' to put it nicely :] I'd have some photos around somewhere of both his and John Wesley's stage setups if anyone's interested . . . |

I had the good fortune to mix a couple of Porcupine Tree live gigs back in the 90s. Definitely one of the better bands that I have worked with.

In Absentia is a great album and Tim Palmer did a great job mixing it.
