Overstayer FET vs. Overstayer VCA

Hey!

Ok, not really a competition or thread asking which is better...but I want to hear the difference in sound. I plan to pick up both at some point. Can anyone who owns both units put up so clips possibly? And/or describe the sound of each?

From what I've heard, the FET is a great drum comp, very versatile, and can be clean or dirty. The VCA seems to be a bit more smooth, great mix bus compressor, but also versatile. I need both, but one at a time!

Thanks!

If you search for either the Overstayer FET or VCA threads, there's definitely a thread where someone demonstrated how both sound, via clips.

My impression was that the FET version definitely dirties up the signal a lot more, in a cool way, if you're into that kind of thing. This was with pretty much all settings demonsrated, but the dirtiness is less present with less aggressive settings.

The VCA version stayed really clean, regardless of how hard you pushed the behavior setting, though the "thump" definitely increased with higher behavior settings.

I thought they both sounded fantastic, and only went another way, because I'm not tracking, or mixing any drums at the present time, and Cytomic The Glue will suffice for 2-bus duties for a while. I definitely plan on grabbing the VCA compressor in the future though.

Hope any of this helps.
