Thread Starter | Interface produces a fuzz/buzzing sound.
Hey guys. Tonight I decided to do a "dry run" recording session with my friend to try and smooth out any bumps we might have so we will be better prepared for our real session in a few days. I'm glad we did this, because this is my first real time recording someone. I'm glad I get to work with a friend so they know I suck because I'm new Anyways, I made sure that nothing was peaking/clipping, yet I still get this fuzz. I'm not sure if it came about whilst recording the guitar or the vocals. Both the guitar and vocals were recorded with a Shure SM58, tracked separately though. Brothers shoulder - 1st Recording Ever by funcoot on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free The track is really quiet. Woops. I'm scared it may be the preamp in my interface. It's a MobilePre mkii. Simple little 2 input interface with phantom power. Again, nothing was clipping or peaking. I did not have the channel gains jacked all the way up and the cables were in great shape. I know it isn't the cables because I unplugged my interface from the amp (had the amp hooked up to the output) and plugged a guitar in. No buzz. Any ideas? Also, please excuse all the other logistical problems with the recording, I did not do any editing. We simply did this for practice. |

Same thing happened to me once. In my case I had turned on the computer and the interface in the wrong order (MacBook/Digi 003). It produced ugly static/distortion on the channel inputs. Check your owner's manual.

Yeah. I should clarify and be more specific. We had the output going to an amp. We used regular headphones too. Just plugged it into an amp to hear it, used it like a monitor, except it's not really a monitor. haha The problem doesn't have to do with the amp, I don't think. You can hear the buzz come in on the song when the guitar starts. |

Try it with headphones and no amp. Balanced line out going to unbalanced instrument input could be making noise.

I think there is a definite problem with my interface. I have it hooked up to my computer with nothing in the inputs. I decided just to record. The hum is there even with the gain turned all the way down and just gets worse as it is turned up. See for yourself.
