Roland MKS-70 questions

I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I have a Roland MKS-70 that has not been used in a while. The battery is good. It seems to work fine but the the display is all X's. You can see that the characters are changing but because of the X's you can't see what they are. Does anyone know how to get the display to show what it should?
