Thread Starter | UAD Studer 800 vs Portico 5042/Soundskulptor STS?
Anybody have any insight into this? I love the sound of the UAD Studer plugin but don't own a UAD card myself, and don't want to buy plugins for the studio's UAD card as I can't transfer them at a later date. Cheers Al |

if you are on PC VST these are pretty good for tape sound - combination of the R2R, Tapebooster (saturation), and VTM2 CDSoundMaster Software Online In a shoot-out on the UAD forum - most people preferred the Nebula tape examples. (these plugins above powered by Nebula technology) |

You can later sell UAD cards (plug-ins can be sold with them if you choose) and UA will make the transfer to the new owner free of charge. You cannot sell plug-ins individually without including a UAD card in the transaction, as plug-in licenses are always tied to a card and must be in your legal name. Cheers, Billy Buck

| Lives for gear | They all sound good, and help your mixes not being too crystal clear, adding a warmth/roundness to your tracks. The Soundskulptor STS got a good review in Sound on Sound but the reveiwer seemed to prever the Portico as it was more flexible. Personally, the tube warmth in Samplitude Pro X is also nice as well. With that all being said, the UAD Studer is the most flexible as it offers multiple speeds, several different tapes, and a bias to play with. I highly recommend getting a Duo card and the UAD Studer. Massive Passive would be the next to get.
