Hi gearslutz. Where in the world do you find a corrugated 2.5 micron ribbon for replacement of a torn ribbon?

I know you can send it directly to Cascade and they'll replace the ribbon for $75. I'm personally more interested in learning how to do it myself and experimenting with tensions. There has to be a distributor somewhere in America.

Ok, after quite a bit of google research trial and error, I've found these two American companies sell aluminum sheets. Lebow sells it in 1.8 and 2.5 microns. I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow. I still need to devise a way to corrugate the ribbons. If you have any suggestions speak up. Lebow Company. Lebow Company the second is Alfa Aesar. Alfa Aesar - A Johnson Matthey Company |

| Lives for gear | Quote: Oh yes, and this DIY ribbon mic site also will give you pointers on how to replace the ribbon material as well as how to tune the ribbon. This is an excellent resource. Buy stuff from this guy. He spent a lot of time researching the ribbon mic and compiling the stuff for folks just like us to benefit from. And he makes the information readily available for everyone to use. | |

Thanks for mentioning my site, Matti and Puffer! BTW, if someone is interested, I charge 25 EUR for ribbon replacement + return shipping, which is usually a penny if You send me just a motor instead of the whole microphone. Feel free to drop me an e-mail - info@diyaudiocomponents.com |
