Studio Pets

Does anyone here have any animals that live in, or accompany you to the studio? My cat loves to program my JP8000 or sit on my lap while mixing.

I'm sure than animal dander probably isn't the best thing for faders and pots, but hell it's gotta be better than all the smoke in some studios!

my Basset Hound knocked over my Logic Control (which was on a rolling mixer stand) the other day. she usually sleeps all day, but when she's awake she wants attention.
she likes to get her front paws on the console arm rest, or my lap, or anything that puts her up to my level. ya know, "hi dad... pet me"

well i was programming a long 4 fader automation curve for about 20 minutes, she got jealous and got up on the little Logic Control palm rest... it rolled, and the stand tipped...
crash!!!!
booted back up, all faders calibrated.... nice.

i love that dog more than anything but one of these days that love is gonna come with a $500 repair bill...

Oh....... I have a gorgeous sounding Mossman dreadnaught acoustic guitar that was pretty much built to spec for me in 1987.

My wife's lab got in the house and made a quick dash to the back door via the space below my then home rig. His collar snagged the speaker cable running to a JBL monitor speaker which fell onto the back of the Mossman splitting the mahongany.

It sounds pretty much the same mic'd up.
It WAS a sweet box.

The dog is now dead.... (I didn't kil it... natural causes)

Well, they did run off for a few days - though they promised me they weren't out freelancing.

I just got a new cat, Calista. She's a Calico Manx, very cute. She likes to crawl over the console and up onto the monitors to chew on the slippery silver teflon wires from the outboard converter pcb's, I'll have to watch that!

Thanks guys, they've become a fixture of my modest studio. The project doesn't get started til the client gives them a belly rub and a treat. The only time they didn't hang around for a session was during a Rap project - then again I would have left too if I could.

Looks like you got a cutie there too zkaudio.thumbsup

I was always really worried when I got my cat that she's do stuff like tear up the leather chair in the studio, or sharpen her claws on the speakers. She doesn't even chew on cables or anything! Sometimes if I'm building something she will grab a resistor or capacitor and kick it around, and she loves to steal pieces of hookup wire, but she's great.

I had to try to give her some medicine this morning, and she was crying and very upset at me. I felt so bad.

Mine likes sleeping in the back of my 1x12 combo or sitting on top of it!

I can't wait to get something with automated faders, just so she can chase them.

So does mine.....she is fascinated by the moving faders and will try to climb up on my control surface and plop down on the faders to stop them from moving...which throws the mix out-of-whack.......it has made for some interesting remixes

mine too! well on the logic control at least...

and for some reason my Basset is deathly afraid of anyone while they play a djembe.
but thats handy cause when ever she finds her nose in the trash, all it takes is one rim shot and she's running to the other side of the house.

My Husky/Shephard loves to come close when recording... He'll even sleep and dream with the whines and howles to the beat of the tune... He'll do the howles while he's awake during a performance as well...

But get a mic 5 feet from him, forget it... not a peep!

Something about a very heavily reverb'd howl when he was a pup playing over... and over... and over... and over... a.n.d...o.v.e.r...

Cats chasing the mouse

I have three cats...two of them are pretty lazy...they just plop down on whatever seat is available in the studio...The other cat (name Champ) is constantly jumping on the console and chasing the mouse...literally lunging at the computer screen whenever she sees the cursor move.... To this day she has never caught the mouse....but she never gives up

Do any of you get clients that don't like your pets....I'm pretty much a private studio (pick and choose who I want to work with) but occasionally I'll get a client (usually females) who are scared of cats and want me to put them up.... I refer them to the big sign on the door of the studio that says "IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO CATS OR DO NOT LIKE CATS THIS STUDIO IS NOT FOR YOU...." And in all fairness I live in a loft and the only door that locks is the bathroom door and I refuse to put my cats up for anybody.... Absolutely Love them!!!!
Champ, Shadow and Chewy....
btw, Chewy got her name from going behind the console and constatly chewing on my cables

Just think of the wide frequency spectrum a cat can hear.
Up to 65 kHz - if i recall correctly.

They might be able to tell you if your nyquist filter is working properly!
