I see a studio and I want to paint it "White"!!!!

I've been trying to re-decorate my studio this week and it drives me crazy how many pieces of gear are "black".

Everything is either black or wood grain. As in studio furniture.

I'm actually painting a bunch of stuff white (maybe even my NS 10s) but just thought I would vent how odd this is.

Just so bored of it.

I like it! Go for it.

I have a weird studio fantasy that I would totally do in a second if I was someone like Prince or someone with disposable time and $$$. I had this goofy idea of doing a submarine theme in my studio. I'd have to get a real working perriscope of course and buy every dinasaur outboard piece I could find to mimic the old u-boat control panels. Use those dingy gray and green military colors on everything. you get the idea. Pretty out there, I know.

Just been watching too many war documentaries on Netflix lately.

Kenny,

Just a few suggestions (All mainly from The UK) .. Courtesy of The Miloco Group ..

Credit where credit is due .. Miloco are extremely savvy at marketing studios, and have succeeded in The UK and Europe, at a time when many others have gone under .. I might be able to find a few more photos to add ..

Cheers RAy

Kenny - you need to go to
Chris Blackwell's Official Groovy Site! - or is it .com - in the UK.

He has the whitest studio in the known universe!

Bugger! Not too many studio photos, but he has white everything, I kid you not.

Sounds a little KKK to me. actually I went to a studio in LA owned by an artist named Yoshiki in the from a group called X-Japan. All of the rack gear had been painted gloss black, and much effort was made into re-silkscreening the writing. He had 5 black akai s6000s, like 7 black emu emulators. I don't remember the analog gear cause I was more into keyboard stuff at the time. About 10 floor to ceiling racks of blackness though.

I noticed you said you were talking about painting your NS10s, I had a question yesterday, but didn't consider it thread worth, so I am hoping to get an answer here. How damaging is it to paint/spray paint the woofer? Im sure your talking about the box, but I want to know about the woofer. My friend and I were discussing the fact that we would like to make the studio red and black, and I don't want to choose my next set of monitors based on color... so If I can just paint them red, id be a happy dude.

Paint the "actual" woofer?

I would say it would make the speaker useless.

I'm gonna take the speakers out of the cabinets before I paint them.

I assumed as much since the NS10 woofer is already white.

Has anyone else heard of a way of coloring a woofer without damaging it?

only way I can think of non destructively coloring the woofer, is with lights. Just get some small red lights, and point em at the white driver.

This made me think of when I finally learned why everything in the film industry is black. All the gear, all the equipment, everyone wears black on set... because you don't want ANYTHING to reflect ANY light somewhere it isn't wanted.

But that's the film world, just reminded me of that.

This studio here in St. Louis painted their NS10s white... Looks pretty cool... Looks better in person, of course.

Dunno, this might be the whitest studio in the known universe... No fruit juice allowed I'm sure!

No fruit juice? How about no people? I could never understand how actual human beings could have white furniture or white carpets.

Kenny- after the whole thing is white, you could call it the iStudio.

Since when is white a less boring alternative to black? That would be my last color choice for any interior design. Although those old white 421's are pretty cool.

I'd have zero creativity in those brash, harsh, lit-up white rooms posted. A huge picture window looking out into a yard? Yeow, what kind of music do people do in those kinds of rooms, Kelloggs Cereal or Apple tv commercials??

Why not make that into a white studio with attached drive-through car wash to add in some variety.

Art starts in the mind. You can only bring that out in a dimly lit (or dark) studio where gear is black like nature intended.

Plus, I don't see any way that a lava lamp would show up in those white layouts.

Great thread, I really like those studios posted above. I'm tired of sitting in a dark room for 8 hours a day.

On the other hand, if I were in a brightly lit cubicle for 8 hours a day, I'd likely be suicidal by now.

Do they make a white Lava lamp? ... never mind, that would be gross

All those white places make me think of "A Clockwork Orange". Whilst torture and brainwashing seem appropriate on one level I'm not sure I'd do it of my own volition.

Small lad to slip under your butt, save soiling the pretty white seating perhaps, sir? Or laddie helps you soil it twice as fast, should you prefer.
