Thread Starter | Moog MG-1
I'm deciding between a moog mg-1 and mopho. The main thing I'm not sold on about the mg-1 is the lack of pitch bend/mod wheels. I came across this old remy shand song where he appears to use the mg-1 on his solo, but I hear definite pitch bending and modulation going on. So is there some trick or modification for it that allows these functions? I suppose he could just be using the mg-1 for show in the video, and actually recorded the solo on a different synth, but I was just curious. The solo comes in at about 2:45 |

I own both and in typical g slut fashion I would buy both. The mg1 is an awesome color/vintage synth; it sounds old and awesome and modulation options galore with all the sliders. The mopho is the new new; lots of awesome beat synced percussive elements that can basically do the work for you. A few tweaks from the presets and u have your own sounds too. It does not however sound old and drifty like the mg1. ....need both..... If hard pressed I'd get the mopho cause it's newer, also save and get the kybd so you can actually edit stuff without hassle.

![]() I'd love to have both but can only afford one probably as I'm also looking to get an mpc1000. On the modulation, so are you saying you can do modulations, but you just do it with a slider instead of wheel? Also, is there any way to do pitch bends with the sliders/knobs too?

Sorry forgot. Yeah you have sliders for both oscillators, not as convenient as the pitch wheel, but lots of fun in-between note shenanigans. I would say it's deff more fun to play out of the two imo. I'll watch the vid link when I'm home.

But yeah, if I could do pitch bends and modulations on it with sliders, that would be fine with me, as long as it has the ability.

or from your daw using silent way or volta. not sure if mg-1 was factory-equipped with cv/gate inputs but it can be easily modded, you can probably get a cv/gate kit from kenton btw, this moog might have s-trigger instead of gate, so bear this in mind if looking for a midi-to-cv converter

if yes, then you just need expert sleepers' silent way or motu's volta (assuming you want to control it from your daw and you have a sound card) it's all explained at expert sleepers' website, i suggest you email them - they are very friendly and will answer your questions

Has anyone tried using a moog ep2 pedal with the mg1? I cant seem to get mine to work. Ive tried all the inputs. The Trigger and Pitch inputs react to the pedal but dont effect the filter. However, my mg1 came with several mods, one including a VCF CV IN. but nothing. Anyone have success using the expression pedal? |
