Rainbow Rising - Anyone know who engineered it?

I know Martin Birch produced it... But did he engineer too?

Fantastic bombastic drum sounds, from the man Cozy Powell, lovely bright cymbal tones and great flange FX (tape?)

Check out "Stargazer" for a taster

Wow dude, you're really digging it up.

I don't remember if Roger Glover is on that one, but I think he's one of the great underrated bass players.

LOL... Oldies but goodies. Someone mentioned it the other day, so I checked it out!

I believe Jimmy Bain plays bass.

....

IMHO the drum sound is a great example of the drums and the room as a whole instrument.

Yes, Recorded at Musicland Studios, Produced by Martin Birch, Jimmy Bain on Bass, no engineering credit on the sleeve notes (so if Bain had assistants, they did not get engineering credit, but there are about fifteen non-specific 'Special Thanks' listed).

Not so sure about that. To my ears, the room sound is overdone and makes the drums sound boxy - which in turn makes the mix seems smaller than it should be. The kick sound is small, and Jimmy Bain's bass - rather thin sounding - is well back in the mix througout.

I remember wondering, even at the time, why they did that.

It's hard for me to listen to kick drums when Dio's manning the mic.

Remember 'Ronnie and the Red hats' from 1959? Dio's first band

one of the greats! he died way before his time...

if you like his sound, check out black sabbath's "headless cross" or whitesnake's "slide it in" albums. whether you like that type of music or not, he always sounded HUGE!

Stargazer sound

Anybody know what keyboard/synth Tony Carey used to get that haunting choir/synth sound on stargazer?
