what does everyone plan to get in 2012

Well since we only have 2 months left until the last year on earth i was wondering what pieces of gear or software that everyone plans to be purchasing next year and why you want to add it to your studio.

i plan on completely revamping my studio from scratch, new monitors, PT 10 HD native, and possibly a small console.

Its the last year we got left so make it good

My hope is to rack up some more clients and buy a distressor or maybe the new retro lunchbox comp

Retro Instruments Doublewide Single-channel tube compression amplifier for 500 Series | VintageKing.com

Looks tasty!

Does anybody actually have any money to buy gear? Okay, so I won't go there. Ha,ha (actually, sob, sob)

I'm working a deal to get a Yamaha Motif XF. I have alot of synths - most of the the big dog pieces, Oasys, Virus, Nord Lead, Super Nova, V Synth, yadayada. The Motif has always been a synth that I wanted in my arsenal so in the next few months I think I'm going to be getting one at a great price. Whenever I add a new synth and I get all those additional colors to paint with I always go into this creative phase where a bunch of new music comes out of me because I'm so inspired by the new patches. Looking forward to that in a big way.

A Herman Miller Aeron, finally. If the world comes to an end, at least I will be seated comfortably when it happens.

I hope I can afford some new monitors next year to go alongside my NS10's. Possibly a new PC too.

Strings for the old Kalamazoo.

One of those cool dust things for my keyboard.

Wait! Is the world coming to an end?

I better string up the old SG as well.

I really, really wish that some audio maker would build a hardware multitrack recorder with a powerful midi sequencer. Something totally standalone and NOT dependent on fukkin computers. But with USB integration so that we can use DAWS in the studio - when it doesn't matter if the OS craps out.

It seems fairly clear to me that their is utter frustration with most DAWs and computer based applications. They are ok in an environment that can tolerate unexpected crashes and delays. I won't stop using DAWS and plugins ... BUT ... I really don't want to have to track with them, and I really don't want to gig with them.

With solid state memory being practical now, there is the opportunity to build a SILENT, DC powered PORTABLE "digital audio workstation" that would fullfill the needs of most musicians, producers, engineers. Something that works 100% standalone and foolproof - but can transfer files to and from any DAW.

Is this too much to ask?

How many people would buy this?

I would love a modular concept - ideally an industry standard so that different levels of quality preamps and converters could be joined together as the project or budget changes.

Why have we fallen into Microsoft & Apples trap? And I don't think Linux is the answer either. But it amazes me what the Korg Kronos can do with Linux and a fecking ATOM processor ... a Netbook running Win7 on an Atom processors spends all day just booting up.

After years of promoting software, I want hardware back - with a vengance. And not a fukkn computer in a box posing as hardware ...

I'm going to build a studio desk, then I'm going to finally upgrade from laptop and headphones to a mixtrack pro (dj controller) and samson resolvs because I can afford to do this next month and I don't have any speakers at all at the moment. Then I'm going to save up for a duet2, genelec 8030/8040, (i've only heard the 8040) , an APC20 and hopefully ableton 9 suite or 8 if it's not out yet.

I'm been promising myself this for a while, things keep getting in the way, good things though like spending 4 months in india and nepal :D

I have humble expectations for the time being. Currently do not make much money with my home studio but we are relocating and scaling our expenses down and hopefully that will allow me the freedom to do more with less. (pipedreaming...)

But on my wish list would be an 8 channel pre/converter to add inputs to my setup; a new small-bodied acoustic guitar that records easily; a baritone conversion neck for a guitar I already have; a Cloudlifter or FET head(?); maybe the new BLA B12a pre or two; maybe an Overstayer comp; maybe a KRK Ergo or the JBL version...

right now I feel blissfully GAS free though!

Sound treatment is #1.

I also would like a few 500-modules, specifically a GR/Harrison EQ, an A Designs PEQ-1, and A Designs Blue Preamp, Empirical Labs DerrEsser, and some kind of comp.

Dangerous Music D-box
Mojave MA-300
Pair of Little Blondies
Royer 101

That's about it. I'll probably get only one though... :(

A bunch of Lexicon outboard, 2 LA3As, Hammer EQ and and API 2500.

Another AEA R84 and a couple of 4038s would be nice as well.

I think the Dangerous Music Bax eq is next for me...and probably readdress some mix room acoustics. It never seems to end, does it~? There will forever be "one more thing" that we "need" :-)

Yeah, that's the sort of recording appliance I could stand to use, assuming the system was stable, latency was low, sound quality and headroom are good and metering is useful. Nice to have for all sorts of portable recording tasks. About all I'd need.

Cheers,

Otto
