Intersample Peak detecting plug-in's (AU, VST, etc.)

so after all the level/gain staging w/ DAW threads, i want to know what other plug-in's that can also detect the evil intersample peaks.

from this thread:

http://www.gearslutz.com/board/showt...t=35847&page=4

i know there are 4 known plugs:

1. TL MasterMeter
2. Sony Oxford Limiter
3. TCE 6000 MD3 algorithm
4. TCE MD3 PowerCore plugin (TDM forthcoming)

anybody know other plugins (esp AU/VST/etc.) that can also "see" the intersample peaks?

also noted in the same thread, that Elemental Audio's Inspector XL doesn't do this... despite of all the great metering.

perhaps they've upgraded the plug-in recently, i don't know. would be great to get some info on this, if there's any.

I don't really know...but I think Voxengo has something, maybe the Elephant plug...maybe go to the Voxengo forum and ask around there...

I'm not really sure...but I think if you just keep your levels down, you don't really have to worry about intersample peaks...

i'm curious as well.

that was a great thread, someone mentioned the UAD prec limiter's meter. although i don't remember if they are intersample accurate or not.

for now...i just keep my levels below -6.

i hope someone comes out with REAL VST meters one day

thanks for the replies.

since i'm on a mac/logic, it'd be great to look for something native on mac.. preferrably w/ AU..

if you read the threads, you'll see that even if meters are hitting below -6dB, the non-float plugs can at times get overs @ intersamples. i just want to be on the safe side.

this is the time i wish i knew enough about programming to build one myself.

I have emailed both UA and Voxengo and both gave me replies that went along the line of "we don't see the need of implementing that feature".

However, they did advise that if you are worried about intersample peaks just leave your master out levels 3db (dbfs? whatever) clear of "0".

No, I don't know of any more plugins than that you've mentioned that has this feature.

Hope that helps.

You'll notice it when your DA clips. With the Cubase master buss it's pretty hard to get your DA clipping. I guess the build in limiter takes the reconstruction of the signal into account and makes sure the DA doesn't clip. (so why would you need a meter?)

Leaving some room, -3dBFS or -6dBFS on the master buss can't be bad either

yeah, i've been really careful about not having anything near 3dBFS; in fact been recording under -6dB and mixing judiciously.

but sometimes it's hard to tell because the reconstruction process takes place within a non-float plugin. it's not so much of hearing the roughness right away, but these kinda things build up after awhile into mixing.

i just wanna get it right every step of process, y'know?

yesterday i emailed Elemental Audio to see if they updated their InspectorXL or not, and i'm doing s'more searches for other possible native solutions.

The Loudness Maximizer section of Ozone has an option to prevent intersample peaks, but I don't think it counts them or anything like that.

The Loudness Maximizer also has some high quality dither, Megabitmax.
